I assure You the controls are great but It take some time to master them actually, I reccomend You to use a gamepad stick instead wasd or Dpad as those last two have a slight delay on steering

The controls are tough to get used to at first, but feel Silky Smooth once you actually learn them, you should give the game another chance!
