Tries to cram the breadth and depth of an RPG campaign into a 45-minute beat-'em-up. What comes out the other end is utterly unique, visually sumptuous, and a ton of fun in four-player co-op. A personal favorite.

Revisited this last year whilst playing through a rough history of belt scrollers. I remember enjoying it the first time round however many years ago, but replaying it right next to its contemporaries I was so impressed with it. They really tried with this one, and to me did manage capture some of that RPG adventure spirit even if there are some apparent flaws. Totally agreed on the designs for this one - apparently Nishimura's proudest work!

It's really breathtaking what they tried to do with the format, you hardly ever see characters like the Thief or Magic-User in a bmup. It's an intensely team-based game because of that as well, feels like it loses a lot from being played solo
