I was able to do some quick renovation on my pad and the weather cooled down for just long enough for me to squeeze one more DDR game in before I likely go into DDR hibernation until the fall. This game uses the engine of DDR 4thmix to give PS1 players the ability to play songs from the DDR solo series of arcade games, which is pretty cool. Since one of the DDR solo games is specifically bass-oriented, it means that a solid amount of the setlist for this game is rather bassy and hip-hoppy than the happy speedcore that I prefer in DDR (though there do be some dancemania speed licenses still in there so it's not all for naught). Unlocking songs is slower than 4thmix as you get a new song every 10 songs rather than every 5, but don't worry those middle intervals are replaced with the new unlockable in learning random tidbits about the DDR dance/idol(???) unit members instead. Learn wonderful things such as what their favorite phrases, colors, and DDR songs are as you progress through the game! This game also still has the challenge mode from 4thmix and there's a data bank FULL of community charts for pretty much EVERY song in EVERY previous game, so this actually gives a TON of reason to keep your previous games around. Didn't try any of the custom charts though as the previews alone definitely told me that they are essentially made by experts for experts, charts basically for the cracked DDR players that have wrung out every last inch of challenge the series can give them thus far, and I definitely do not fall in that category lmao. Overall a solid entry in the DDR series but I also think that if you even know about this game you are probably already too deep in the DDR hole to really need people like me recommending games to ya. Maybe if the nights are cool enough I can try to continue my DDR journey through the summer but it just do depend on temps, I sure as hell can't tolerate jumping around in the intense summer game room heat.
