An amazing game overall, along with being a nice introduction to the Danganronpa series. Just be prepared for the next game because it only gets more complex from here. Its a bit of a drag in some places and some mystery's are a bit weak compared to the rest of the series murders but its got some great moments and I loved the twist at the end

The writing itself is very bad but it was really fun to play. The trials especially were fun

nothing beats the atmosphere of the first game!!

I play this when im taking a shit and when im done i say to my teammates "done shitting" and turn it off. Doesn't matter how far into the game I am i turn that shit off.

friend of mine kept trying to get me to play this for a really long time, eventually i caved and played the first five minutes or so before putting it away. i barely remember the game but she got arrested for child porn a year later so three stars

Play and have 10/10 fun for a month, drop the game for a year, repeat.

i remember playing this in the basement of my friends house and we would just be screaming constantly. i wonder if his parents hated us

I now know every way to add and subtract to the number 9

Mild but not Direct Spoiler Warning

First off, the setting and concept are both great, nine characters are trapped on a ship and have to make their way out through cooperation and smarts. The way the game executes the branching paths is also amazingly done and even ties into the story itself. The true ending is just an entire rollercoaster where you have no idea what is happening in the best way.

That said, the road to get there and the other endings are the biggest slog imaginable. The amount of fucking scenes where you would be doing a puzzle and one character would just be like "Hey let's talk for 30 minutes about how the JFK Assassination impacted U.S relations with foreign countries while we are in a DEATH GAME with a TIME LIMIT" is actually the worst part of the game. It's even worse when the only way to get the true ending is to initiate one of these conversations while you are in a FREEZER, FREEZING TO DEATH, while the other characters are SHOUTING AT YOU TO GET THEM OUT OF THE FREEZER. But no, let's talk about ICE CRYSTALS and how in 1892 Archduke Ferdinand accidentally put 3 ice cubes in his tea instead of 2 and how that led to his assassination years later. While we are freezing to death. Characters will just bring up the most oblique shit for no other reason other than to foreshadow the endings.

The ending, like I said, is great, but its greatness is extremely diminished on platforms that are not the DS, simply due to what the DS is able to do that the other platforms aren't. I played this on Steam, and even though the DS doesn't have voice acting I might've actually preferred it to Steam if only to experience the ending in its full capacity.

All in all, good VA, bit of a slog, characters shouldn't bring up the fall of the Byzantine Empire while they have 30 minutes left before they fucking explode, you should play if you like mysteries. Also if you don't care for the voice acting go for DS.

Games that rewire your entire brain and make you experience new emotions. I replayed this while I was sick and I had a fever and the ending made me cry so much that my fever broke. 11/10
