The central idea of this game as a flying shooter with a behind-the-back perspective is great, and I love the missile lock-on. However I couldn't have much fun with either console port I tried. The Master System version is choppy as hell which makes it disorienting to try to see what's going on, so that version's pretty terrible. The NES version runs much smoother and is much more playable as a result, but the tilt when you turn seems to be much stronger which is disorienting in its own right. Both versions are also DAMN hard with no way to continue after losing your lives. I can barely tell when a missile is supposed to be coming at me. I'd love to try out the arcade version which is probably way more fun, but the chance to do that is probably long gone by now and emulating a game intended to be played in a cockpit interface just ain't the same, man. I'm sure the sequels are much more playable in home console format but in general, this is a game that belongs in the arcade, which sadly means I'm not likely to properly experience it.
