Honestly, when it comes to the roguelike, dungeon-crawler gameplay, there's nothing particularly special about this game.
However, everything else is what makes it a masterpiece, in my opinion. It's simply one of the most emotionally potent video games I have ever experienced, something that has nearly brought me to tears with its combination of great storytelling & writing and beautiful soundtrack. It's very well-paced and is filled with engaging content—improves even more on Explorers of Time & Darkness.

A genuinely fun experience and there's already been much been said about the game's visuals, music, and gameplay, but it's not the masterpiece that most people say it is.
While being very good overall, it is not without it's fair share of flaws. The story of Persona 5 is unspectacular and does not carry the rather easier-to-relate themes of Persona 4 / Golden, despite both being stories revolving around teenagers and how they find their place in society. Even more of a negative is the cringeworthy and cheesy writing that is just so difficult to appreciate. To be fair, overall this might have appealed to me better if I played it when I was a bit younger.
The gameplay, while definitely enjoyable, is a bit on the easier side and I wish I actually had more challenge playing it.
