Alongside Mario Land 1, Wario Land and Crazy Castle, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is one of the first games I can remember playing. Especially the soundtrack and really beautifully designed levels have always stayed in my memory. I found Macro Zone and Mario Zone especially impressive as a child and full of cool ideas. The gameplay has hardly aged but doesn't do much special. We run from left to right, dodging or defeating enemies until we leave the level at the end, sometimes through an optional door that leads to a secret level. Neither the enemies nor the bosses are very difficult. Especially not with the fire flower power-up, which seems a bit overpowered, especially in the boss fights. Now that I've played the game again on the Switch, it's clear how timeless this classic is and how well it's still received today. The general feeling of Super Mario Land 2 is simply great thanks to the music and the design.
