paralyzer reviewed Overcooked! 2

This review contains spoilers

A game the perfectly encapsulates the the sheer stress of working a minimum wage career at McDonald's. It starts off managable but your screaming will quickly make Gordon Ramsey's typical tone of voice feel more like an ASMR bedtime story. I new a little about this game before I tried it, but only surface level details. Playing it solo while controlling two different characters felt a bit clunky but something that probably has more depth than I initially gave it credit for. For most of the campaign, I played with a friend of mine. In retrospect, I still do think this is the way to go, as it was extremely fun and suprisingly intense as the orders piled up. Working together to slowly get into a rhythm and master the levels was the main part of the gameplay loop that got me addicted. I always had to lock in, in order to keep the pace, however, I certainly had my fair share of mini mental breakdowns during the levels. Speaking of the levels, I was shocked at the sheer variety and constant innovation on most of the stages. The teleporters, moving rafts, remote control platforms, evolving stages, abundant recipes, etc. all helped to constantly keep my experience fresh. We developed a unique strategy for pretty much every level which made them all stand out. The story was extermely simple and cute, but nothing groundbreaking. It was more of an excuse to set the game in motion, rather than trying to create a deep or complex narrative with groundbreaking themes. It did its job and nothing more. Pure co-op (not multiplayer) games seem to be fewer and father between these days, so I really loved being able to beat a campaign with a friend. For the future I will definitely be on the lookout for titles similar to this.
