This review contains spoilers
Well, initially I was under impression “Why people didn’t like that game?”, it’s OK. But then I started to gather things that annoyed me, and I understood that despite the good graphics, intrigue exposition, the simple but effective action:
- I don’t like melee combat. I played on hard difficulty, so managing resources was an issue for me (probably it was difficulty independent). I noticed that it is super repetative and boring. Moreover after sometime you finding the pattern how to just smash enemy without it hitting you. R2 -> R2 -> R1 - repeat. After R1 enemy falling. While it standing up, you hit twice R2 and the R1, so it will fall again. Looks a bit stupid
- the climax part of the plot is kinda ok, but in the same time there were two things that annoyed me. First, the understanding of the main character that he were the cause of infection. That was simple and cheap. Plus, come on you just a courier, not the main conductor of that. I think in that sense the plot could be done deeper. Second the final shot when Ferris appears in his first form again. Wtf? I understand, it is cliff hanger, but come on. It looks cheap, too
- the price compare to what the game is unfair. The game lasts 7 hours, which is okay even for some games that costs 70$. But for that amount of money and small amount of play hours I don’t receive much content variety. Simple not super working stealth, stupid melee combat, cheap plot, no immersive/survival elements. If you take Prey (2017) it scares more, entertains more, gives better plot and costs less
P.S.: I played Dead Space a bit, so I don’t think I have a right to compare plots and somebody’s emotions, even though I heard, that CP is kind of ugly child of DS. If that’s true and the CP copies a lot from DS in much more shitty way, then 2/5 rating is even more deserved
