The student succeeds the master. While earlier early access versions could be seen as a Slay the Spire clone with Magic's mana system and a Touhou coat of paint and a few bells and whistles, the game genuinely feels like a sequel, mechanically, to Spire. The mana system is far too interesting for me to ever really go back to lame mono-energy, and it looks and sounds great. There are even already two very well-designed modded characters, and that was the one thing I thought would hold this game back. Excited to see how this game develops. Hopefully they fix Blue being kind of ass.
