The writing is really unfunny in that special late 360-era way. This game and its predecessor popularized one of the most lifeless AAA genres, but this one has the novelty of actually showering you with a bazillion guns instead of just like, a reasonable amount...

...But the game is a lot of fun. The movement and gunplay are pretty satisfying, the quests are fun, and the enemies are interesting to fight. It doesn't do anything especially well, but it does a lot of things well enough.

I can't recommend enough that you play this with co-op; single-player may bore you. With the right friend(s) and some pizza... it's a good time. Also Gaige is cute, at least in Japanese fanart.
