Even if he was joking, the "They looked like monsters to you?" line freaked me out enough to make me feel uneasy about killing monsters for the rest of the playthrough which really added to the visual horror elements in this game, of which I think SH3 is strongest in (even if the symbolism is more fuzzy compared to SH2).
