OKAY FINE I FINISHED IT

This game must have been absolutely impossible back in 1986. The layout is repetitive and obtuse, with crucial pathways hidden in places you likely wouldn't check without a guide (or at least without decades of experience playing Metroidvanias).

I played this immediately after beating Zero Mission again, and it makes the remake feel so much more impressive in retrospect. It was cool to see where the key points of ZM originated, and it was eye-opening to see just how much they had to renovate the source material.

Did you know Kraid was originally tiny?? I sure didn't.

There's a lot of good ideas here, especially for a console mostly filled with forgettable arcade-style garbage, but it is a SLOG to get through today. NEStroid is something to be respected, but not really something to be enjoyed.

For real, go play Zero Mission.
