This one's hard to review because it does mean quite a lot to me, but I'll try my best. FF6 was the first rpg I really played, and in hindsight, I'm very grateful for that. From a critical standpoint, I think many would argue it's one of the best rpgs ever made, and damn does it hold up well. Gorgeous pixel art, a great story full of fleshed out and colorful characters, a fantastic soundtrack, and pretty fantastic jrpg combat and systems to boot (to be fair, they're just a little broken in the original SNES version, but the pixel remaster remedies that). Standalone, every part of this game just works really well to be honest, yet on top of that, for me it is bolstered by years of loving nostalgia. FF6 is distinctly cozy in of itself, so the warm memories I have of cuddling up with it over middle school Winter breaks enhance it in a way that's hard to describe. Obviously, FF6 is an experience dear to my heart, but even if you don't share such a close connection with it, the game still slaps, a genre defining ideal testament to the quality of its era's rpgs.
