everytime i feel like im in the absolute peak of a depressive spell i go and look the video on youtube dot com titled "Asm-ng-ld's Lair" and proceed to realize that The Pression is not a one-size fits-all ailment, and comes in many different shapes and forms, at least im not breathing in hella mold spores from the soda cups i got a few months ago at the Watered Burger down the stroad.
played for about 2 months back in like 2010ish because i had a few friends who themselves fell victim to this peice of software for a little bit (they are not still playing it today, thankfully). every time i played with them i just kept saying to myself "I really could just be playing Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup instead and not have to be a 15 bucks a month sucker".

wow turned me and best friend into girls in the mid 10s so i have a soft spot for the game -- or at least my distorted memories of the game i made with that friend -- despite it being mostly dogshit and ideologically vacant (me and the same friend went back and tried to replay it at some point and like quite literally every quest in that game is about murdering some sort of indigenous sentient fantasy species) and tied to a company as ethically fraught as AB. i seriously can't comprehend how anybody besides RPers who just really want to be purple elves get anything out of the game these days

@theia my friends were mostly into it for not "just hanging out" based on how many Heated Gamer Moments i had to hear over skype calls. these days i probably wouldnt have any objection to just hopping on a private server for RP if i were urged to by some friends, but Actually Playing the game was just left me feeling empty, like if i hit the "kill wildlife" button for long enough i too could've seen the coveted Level 70. if i just played a purple elf and chilled in towns i might've had a better time. it was the dang mahou shoujo horse cartoon that ended up turning me into a girl oof. my ex fiancee is one of the people that for some reason started playing this nonstop in the 2020s, but she was coming from yelling at people about how bad they are in overwatch until like 4am so it makes sense.
if i ever come across asmongold in real life (there is a nonzero chance), i will report back with what i smelled.
