I cant give this more than 2 and a half stars because the writing is just so bad.

I want to like this game, the idea of a two player casual Platformer you can play with a family member is great, and the ideas and design of the game are so well done (with a few exceptions). Graphics also often are pretty when they are just trying to look realistic.

I can’t over-emphasize how much the writing detracts from the experience though. There are majorly problematic ideas behind the game that make the player feel kinda scummy, like how the game treats divorce and how it writes the player character. There isnt much to latch onto with Cody and May in terms of likeability. It feels like every time there might be a gameplay hook that ties into the narrative the writing undermines it. Like Cody gets all the supportive weapons and May gets the empowering weapons but then story wise Cody is just a good for nothing man child who requires May’s encouragement in every little facet of his life. Also May spends too much time away apparently but that narrative thread is just dropped by the end of the game. They have no chemistry all the way until the end when May just sings or whatever and they say each other’s name all romantic like as if it’s earned at all?????? I hate these characters so much. They’re off in fantastical wonderland couples counseling with the racist love book while rose is experiencing the darkest depths of the human experience. Idk fuck this game the more I write about it the madder I get. Every time I remember something I go back and remove a star from my initial 3 star rating. This game literally would’ve been improved if it were just a series of disconnected levels using unity assets so we could just focus on the game design alone.

Anyways tel me why they’re making a film about this game?? What in this trash heap warranted a film to be made? They saw this ass written piece of shit and were like “Great game but what if we removed the gameplay so that we only have the most god awful part of the game? I think that’s worthy of a probable six to seven figure budget.” Wait hold up they’re doing a film and a TV series too???? What the fuck???????
