Community Pom is a 1997 action RPG/simulation game for the PlayStation, developed and published by Fill in Cafe (best known for the Asuka 120% and Kendo Rage/Makeruna! Makendou series). With gameplay reminiscent of classic 2D Zelda titles and perhaps most particularly influenced by Magic Knight Rayearth on the Sega Saturn, the game puts its own spin on things by throwing a simple pet raising simulation into the mix, with the player rearing Poms to increase their combat stats and unlock new features and abilities.

My brother in Christ, this game is so adorable and loaded with banger tunes. Feels like something from the SNES that somehow made its way to the PS1 by accident.

A very cute rpg game! The combat was simple but fun, the dungeons were fun to explore and had fairly basic but still neat puzzles, and the OST is honestly full of bangers. Also got a fan tl which is very good and full of charm. I've never much liked double-tap dash using my ps4 controller, which was a bit of a nitpick throughout the entire game, but I imagine most people wouldn't mind it. The pom-raising itself was also pretty whatever. But overall, I'd say check this one out!

A game that represents what I love about the Playstation.

A whole lot of cool ideas packed into a small but dense experience. While certain aspects of the game aren't as well explored as I'd liked (the pet sim particularly) and the game can easily be beaten using some cheap tactics, I'll never forget the sheer uniqueness of it all. And don't sleep on the soundtrack either, it's as unique as the game itself.

I'm not sure what drove me to play this game, but I played it, and it was fun

It has big issues; some puzzles and actual progression paths are incredibly unintuitive to the point of needing a guide, actually using the poms you get in the dungeons is finnicky even when you just want them for utility stuff, and the game has a MASSIVE difficulty spike in the final dungeon. I also don't like the RPG trope of "you have x days to do this thing for me, otherwise you don't get the thing I have ever" which happened to me with one of the poms.

As for the community aspect of this game, I appreciate it but am not a fan. It doesn't really feel like I'm accomplishing anything when I build the community, since most of the buildings don't do anything, and there's a random chance of monsters attacking when you visit. On the other hand, I do very much like the buildings that have use. Having a teleportable town with a save spot, a healing spot, and a rare item store is very handy and forward-thinking on the developers' part.

Every track is an earworm, the sprites and environments are gorgeous, and the people who did the fan translation obviously put a lot of love into it; this is a genuinely funny and charming game thanks to them. In the end, I'm glad I spent the time I did playing Community Pom.

So far, a really cute and fun RPG with beautiful graphics and a really nice OST. Very glad this got an English Translation, 8/10
