Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - My Life as a King

released on Mar 25, 2008

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King is a video game developed for the WiiWare service of the Wii console. Square Enix decided to make a game for the service that would be high profile, and it was decided that the game would be a simulation game and, later in development, a Final Fantasy title. The game is a city-building game set in the world of the action RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and is the third title in the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. Following the events of the first Crystal Chronicles game, the son of a king who lost his kingdom during that game establishes a new one and sets about creating a peaceful and prosperous land.

I bought this with the remaining Wii Points after buying something like Ocarina of Time on the Wii VC. Being a kid and starved for games, I tried this thinking heck yeah, I enjoyed FF3 and FF4 so surely I'll like this. But this remains one of the most mind-bogglingly boring games I've ever played. Just so intensely, unrelentingly dull that I suffered every minute of it, yet kept playing because I was starved.

I did play it again not long ago and could see the appeal, but back then I probably wanted to play the adventure, not manage it.

It must have tempered my gamer tendencies drastically, so I suppose I should be in part grateful to it as well.

Final Fantasy? City builder? Building a Final Fantasy city? Optimizing your city to help adventurers? It's like it was made just for me.

I have to be careful when I play this game because I get very into it. The only gripe I have with the game is that it's not fully evident when you're messing up and how you are. The biggest tip off will be that your adventurers can't finish their dungeons in time before they need to come home, but figuring out how to solve that can be a challenge. Otherwise, everything somehow clicks just right for me.

The perfect game to relax and chill. Comfy as hell.

I love this game! Super underrated hidden gem that not enough people know about and unfortunately no way to buy it now since it is a WiiWare game. But it's a charming little city-building sim that I'm glad I got to play through!

The cutest, comfiest little wiiware game.

It's a sort of city-sim adventure game where instead of going out and adventuring, you play the king.
you hire the adventurers, pay them, and send them on missions.

It's your job to make the city function as it grows and explores the surrounding lands.

at certain points in the games progression story beats are introduced leading towards a specific conclusion.

It's a game that's easily enjoyed but not easily beaten.

As a kid i pumped hours into it never getting very far, but there's no real fail state so you can kinda flounder indefinitely and still have a great time.

To actually beat it, I came back as an adult on an emulator and a guide. Actually trying to win gets a little tedious and it's not SUPER worth it, other than seeing the last phases of city progression.

The plot is very cute, but it's hardly worth the effort.

I really think this game could have been the next harvest moon if square had given it the effort.

I really enjoyed this game and would not mind trying it out again sometime....it was just cute and charming and relaxing to play.
