the FIRST megaman game i actually completed, great story, great ost, and very fun features

When compared to the GBA versions three things stand out:
1: If you are emulating this instead of playing on a DS then the menus will take significantly longer to navigate. Also if you emulate then you don't get the feeling of yelling at MegaMan to get a buff.
2: The voice acting is annoying. Not to say that the voice actors are bad, it's just that there's only a few lines of voiced dialogue and they play way too often.
3: This version is much easier. In Liberation Missions you can edit your folder, and on the regular net you can other Navi's to assist you. I normally like my games to be tough but I like this change as it mainly made the regular encounters easier while the boss battles were about just as tough.
Overall, if you're emulating, or if you get annoyed by repetitive dialogue, or if you want the more challenging experience, then play the GBA version, ideally Team Colonel as well.

Just play the gba games
I think nearly everything is a downgrade and the only benefit I see is being able to use any navi from a team in either game during liberation missions.

-The ghost navi data shit following you around in the net and in random battles is annoying and ruins the fun of battles. (obviously you can turn it off but still having all this extra blue mystery data on everything to do with this system is annoying)

-The folder customization is so much more awkward and slower on DS vs gba. Saving takes way longer too.

-Being able to change your folder inside liberation missions ruins the point of building a good folder for all aspects of a liberation mission

-These games really didn't need maps and imo ruins the feel of it

-Team navi teaming up in liberation mission ruins the balance

-The music on ds sounds so much worse than gba

-The VAs on navis in your PET just becomes so grating

3/4/22 - I finished my replay of BN5DS. I really wanted to replay this game in particular first as I replay the entire Battle Network series, particularly because I didn't have fond memories of BN5. I had a clear disdain for Liberation Missions which negatively affected how I felt. I can say now though the game is super enjoyable. OST benefits from the DS sound font. Story is passable but overall enjoyable. Bosses are super neat. Working on 100%'ing it now but I can say it's a solid game and one I am really happy with after this replay.

3/12/22 - 100%. Post game was very fun as usual, exploring the NebulaHole was great and the Lord of Chaos stuff was super chuuni and great. I felt that Liberation Missions overstayed their welcome by the end of the post game but also, the post game LM's were brutal so I might be a bit jaded. All in all, great time and the post game bumped this game up from 3.5 to 4.

I only played Team Colonel, but it was cool to have both games in one. Solid game, though it wasn't as memorable as Battle Network 3.
