The premise of SD-Snatcher is exactly the same as the original. The game takes place in the year 2042, 50 years after a disaster at Chernoton Laboratory released a deadly agent into the air that killed 80 percent of the Eurasian population. You're Gilian Seed, who was discovered in Siberia while in artificial sleep. Gilian wakes up with no memories. He wants to know more about his past, but the only clue he has to go on is a word that sounds eerily familiar: Snatcher.

If you’ve always thought that SD Snatcher was just a remake of Snatcher with cutesy characters, you’re wrong. Well okay, SD Snatcher IS a remake of Snatcher with cutesy characters, but there’s a lot more to it than that. The battle system has been completely changed to more of an RPG interface, and you can use different weapons that inflict more damage, and you even level up! It’s super total crazy, is what it is! And it’s really amazingly fun, too! The graphics are really nice, and the music, while not impressive (though I didn’t get far), is done really well with the special SCC sound cartridge that’s included in the game. A definite must-play game for any MSX user that, um, speaks Japanese.

Fun reimagining/companion piece to the original Snatcher. Definitely took me by surprise on a few occasions, as someone who recently played through the Sega CD game for the first time. Main pitfalls to the design are that it can be pretty grindy at times (though the fact the combat system is so unique and fun does help), and the constant disk-swapping can be a bit tedious, but I generally was quite impressed with how solid the experience was. Definitely worth a look.
