Growing up this was a dream game to play, with the podracing of Episode 1 being one of my favourite parts of all of Star Wars. The variety in racers and tracks was also great, with some of these tracks being pretty challenging to play. Playing it again for the Platinum on PS4 though, I really see the limits of the game. While it remains a fun racing game, with the ability to destroy opponents via blunt force trauma to their machines, the AI fails to provide much of a challenge at all once you know what you're doing. The track variety also suffers in terms of visuals, with each tournament using the same suite of environments, just changing up the track layouts, and while some of those tracks are stand-outs, the overall list leaves a lot to be desired with the concept.
There is challenge to be found here in unlocking all the secret racers by beating the lap, race, and elimination records on each track, but that can sometimes leave you feeling frustrated rather than accomplished. It's a fun game overall if you vibe with the source material, but lacks anythin to really make it stand out.
