A port of The Addams Family

The Addams Family is a side-scrolling platformer based on the movie of the same name. The player takes the role of Gomez who searches for his missing family members. To find them he has to explore six different parts of the mansion, e.g. the woods, which are basic platform levels: the player moves from left to right while jumping a lot and avoiding enemies. Some of them can be dispatched of by a jump on their heads. The main difference to the other versions of this game is a unique level design. There is also a life meter which allows to get hit more often before dying.

Honestly, The Addams Family game kinda disappointed. Like, I love the family and was hoping for a spooky, fun time, but it just felt clunky. The controls weren't great, the levels were kinda boring, and the whole thing just didn't really capture that Addams Family vibe.

this would be really neat if only I knew what the fuck I was doing

While it is not that great and has many pitfalls and also very cheap kills :D I enjoyed this somewhat, maybe it was the exploration or a small nostalgia factor that I have for this. Disclaimer, if you are used to modern games or are easily frustraded. Do not play this :D

It's not good, but I couldn't stop playing it as a child.

A genuinely god awful experience. This game has some of the most assholish game design choices that it’s 100% apparent that the devs just wanted to waste the time of the playing by having so many trial and error platforming moments that’d you ever even see coming unless you already knew was coming, right down to trying to be like Metroid with it’s open ended nature but not having any real direction given to the playing forcing them to just wander around the house just trying to figure out what to do and where to go. It’s assholeish level design like this that makes me absolutely hate this era of video games and is a constant reminder why I hate playing NES games.
