An expanded game of The Godfather

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, is the highest rated version of The Godfather on Gamerankings and IGN, despite not faring as well with other publications. It features 20 normal missions, ten new hit missions, a new rival family seen only in the new hit missions, rooftop battles, new favors, and other methods such as blackmail and bribery. The Blackhand Edition adds a second path that the player may take through the game, that of the operator. The main method of progression is by blackmailing police, the FBI or members of other families, and what the player does or says affects the outcome. While the enforcer's goal is to destroy the other families through brute force, the operator's is to blackmail the police chiefs of the five boroughs by finding enough "dirt" on them during missions. The player then blackmails the chiefs, enabling the bribe gauge to fill to the top for free every time the player talks to the chief, effectively allowing the player to take control of the police in that area. The police fight alongside the player's family members and can also arrest or kill rival family members. The path of the operator also grants the player additional tactical abilities that are not open to the enforcer, such as enhanced and regenerating health, the ability to call in the four-man hit squad twice as often, enhanced crew damages and health, ability to plant car bombs and make instant stealth kills, and reduced price on bribing on the police and FBI.

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition offers a surprisingly deep dive into the world of the Corleone family for the Wii. Borrowing from Grand Theft Auto's open-world blueprint, you rise through the ranks using brutal violence, intimidation, and strategic business ventures. The Wii's motion controls make hand-to-hand combat engaging, and the voice acting by some film cast members adds a touch of authenticity. However, repetitive environments and a lack of polish compared to other platforms hold it back.

Great game especially for the system, an open world GTA type game is very much welcome.

I think it gets too much of a rap for being similar to GTA but there is way more going on here. For one, it is especially great for fans of the film. They got so many of the actors back for this. Most notably Brando, this was one of his last performances in anything when he was on oxygen; which you can actually hear in game when he's in the hospital. There is something actually kinda haunting knowing he's on his death bed in game and in that moment.

Self inserting your stupid looking character into the story is also charming.

Mechanic wise it feels super smooth to play. The motion controls work great. The melee combat is fun. Shooting feels snappy. There is a decent challenge as well, with intense shootouts and driving sections.

This is a great title for any Wii Owner, and for anyone who enjoys the films. Lots to love here. I don't 100% every game but this one I didn't feel any issues seeing all the way through.

The only wii game I can extort people in

I remember this being a big deal back then on Wii. It had some impressive motion control movements like beating a guy to his knees and then make him stand up just to beat him again. That was fun.
The game itself is basically a gta/mafia clone nothing really impressive, but it was one of the best open world games on Wii.

GTA clone with motion controls set in the 40s with FarCry style base capturing as optional content. Fantastic game

Despite being a licensed EA game, this is actually really great. A solid Grant Theft Auto clone with cleverly designed motion controls.
