I loved it.
I love this Dante so much in particular and god is Nero so beautiful in this game and I love him too. But like Dante is flirting with me through the screen in this game. And I also love his design a lot. Plot was pretty good, just not as good as DMC3 which is why I'm going with a little lower rating plus the enemies and the whole backtracking and fighting the same bosses over and over again in the game.
But yeah. Dante. Marry me pls. I'm literally on my knees.

Devil May Cry 4 was my entry point into the series. The first time I played it, I didn't finish the game because for God's sake I couldn't learn the combat and I couldn't get into it. So I turned the game off and left it alone. After some time, I decided to give the game a second chance and finish it this time, and that's what happened. I learned Combat and I can say I had fun. The story is fine for me, but the main thing I think is the combat, which when you learn it is very rewarding. Overall it's a good Devil May Cry game for me, but I haven't played any other parts.
I remember seeing devil may cry for the first time on the psn store crica 2008. There weren't many titles circulating around and from what was around at that time was shlock like heavenly sword or L.A.I.R.
This was a year where we finally got access to broadband Internet and with that I downloaded as much demoes as I could.
Out of this I stumbled upon Devil may cry 4 and it looked visually impressive at the time.
I would return to this game many years later on the ps4 and this is where I came to understand the few grievances voiced about it.
Once you control dante the pedals begin to fall off and is filled with repetitive areas and enemies.
The music is fantastic and the gameplay buillds upon dmc3 making a fluid loop that rarely fatigues.
Leaving the series here would be a shame but luckily they returned with a bang

This honestly isn't bad, it's no DMC 3 but it definitely was a good ride. Some major problems I did have tho was the repeated boss fights, they weren't bad boss fights but that doesn't mean I want to fight them twice. I really wish Dante's levels weren't just a repeat of Nero's which felt pretty lazy imo. Don't even get me started on that stupid dice game.
it's bizarre to me how capcom zeroes in on the worst aspects of DMC and just goes forward with them. more jumping puzzles, more enemies that are boring as shit to fight, the DICE GAME, WHAT THE FUCK??? It's a beautiful game with a lot going for it, but I just don't understand why their design principle for this series is "prevent the player from doing fun stuff and instead have them do annoying shit."
DMC4 is a not perfect game but it's a stellar game. Sure DMC4 has major backtracking issues and all of Dante's missions are repeats and fighting the same bosses again. Yea the dice stage with the bosses for a third time is a bit much. Sure I get it. Just don't forget though DMC4 is still an amazing action game. Nero is a great new character and is a ton of fun to play. Dante here was the undisputed king of action game mechanics for over a decade until his DMC5 incarnation took over. The game is a ton of fun to play. It's just not as polished overall as DMC3 or DMC5 or have the atmosphere of DMC1. So it kinda falls to the bottom but it's a high tier bottom to begin with. It might not be the best in the series but that doesn't mean it's not worth playing or going back too.
