december: spinny hammer flips bouncing around everywhere and then deku smash a group and get a victory royale instantly
best fucking feeling in the world that no other game can really offer

january edit: i take it back, everything good they added was removed or nerfed, this season blows

fell off a bit however DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM guy

The most ok season this game has had. Started well but got boring.

While there were some big changes this season of Fortnite (mainly the engine change and perks) the game itself still remains the most consistent BR in the market. Doomguy my beloved

I haven't been a Fortnite lifer or anything, but imo that back half of Chapter 3 (after they rolled out Zero Build along with Apex-style mantling) is the best this game has ever been. So, Chapter 4 had a lot riding on it. I think this new season hasn't quite gotten back to that highwater mark yet, but they're still doing a great job making every weekend feel a little different from the last.

The new island is nicely put-together, and does feel like three separate zones instead of one big funnel. Because of that layout, though, the spiciest locations are farther off-center now, which can be interesting but oftentimes also a letdown. (I can't count how many times I've almost cleared out Brutal Bastion only to have to dip from the last firefight as the storm rolled in, making all those sweat and tears seem like a wasted effort.)

I still miss the creative flexibility of last season's Chrome mechanic too, but the mix of new stuff still has a nice, high-chaos feel to it. The dirt bikes are stupid fun, but mostly as a means of fucking around in the mid-game since they're too finicky to have much impact towards the end. Instead, mastering the right-click on the hammer ended up being the big new movement skill this season, but that bounce ability is so powerful in the end game that every last circle comes down to "do you have a hammer, and does it have more charges than the other guy". No? Welp. Sorry, bro. Enjoy your one-shot Deku smash.

Still: friggin' Forknife y'all! It is a good video game!

I love the funny witcher background

I stopped playing this game back in chapter 1 season 5 and picked it up again during this season literally only to unlock the Doom Slayer but to my surprise I actually had a lot of fun while playing.

Where the fuck is klombo :/

I hadn't played Fortnite since it came out back when PUBG exploded. It feels like playing the third entry of the franchise by now and its great.

The BR that I enjoyed the most was Apex, which I had to drop because of the dreadful servers and underwhelming battle pass, meanwhile Fortnite seems to drop new content weekly, is stable, its battle pass is cheaper with more rewards, while also having a halo forge like where I played a Souls like game that was pretty decent.

With the knowledge that this game just changed engines (Unreal 5) I just can't see how other BRs can compete, if a BR will survive it will be this one.

a much better season than the last. gameplay is super fun and the battlepass is great.

Played it a lot and enjoyed it, but it's not the best season I've played.
Most Wanted was the best part of the season.
Riftjector Seat and the Hammer got annoying quickly.
It's mid but I like it.

This was a pretty good Fortnite season. I like the new island and the Unreal 5 updates make the game look great. The new additions are interesting and I largely enjoyed the suite of weapons available.

Though the Island is cool, not many parts beyond the Citadel really stand out, and even that is confusingly designed rather than interesting.

Reality augments are a cool addition to the game, giving a bit of variety from drop to drop, though I usually found myself bypassing the super specific ones in most games. Capture points seem cool, but I never found that their duration or location had much impact on the game... it feels more like a bonus you get once you clear out an area instead of something you fight over.

There was a selection of weapons I liked using, including the new Ex-Calibur Rifle and Shock Hammer (though the latter definitely has an overall negative impact on the game). Weapons like the Twin Mag and Thunder Shotgun managed to trick me into thinking they could be effective, but never actually were. The Twin Mag just feels broken, with the reload mechanics never really being clear. A ton of bows (in the world and because of the Bow augment) gave things a unique feel as well.

I had a good time with the start of Chapter 4, but the weapons and general island layout were just ok. I am looking forward to where future Chapter 4 seasons go.

I kind of have to admit, I really got into Fortnite on a whim of curiosity. I gave it a try a while back towards the end of Chapter 3 last year but didn't really stick with it until this chapter. Originally I wanted to see the new UE5 engine update because I have a thirst for cool new tech and it did absolutely deliver on that front! Fortnite is now one of the best looking games I think have ever seen period, and the way the new Nanite/Lumen tech completely changes lighting is genuinely insane. I still can't believe this is running on modern hardware in real time, the kind of things it pulls off that previously were only possible with long render times in something like Blender.

But beyond the technical side of things, I think the fact that I did actually give in and buy the battle pass and a few extra skins on the shop, and stuck around to finish almost all of it says something about just the cozy casual nature of Fortnite. It's the only battle royale game I think I can enjoy because Fortnite understands how to create a comfortable environment for the player to actually engage in and want to keep going even after crappy losses, both through its progression system always leading you towards a goal (if you pay for the pass at least), and also because Fortnite's gunplay has a shockingly long time-to-kill ratio that most other shooters on the market don't come close to. It's kind of hilarious that Fortnite of all things might actually understand why Halo's combat felt so satisfying and unique of all things, because Fortnite's combat is almost anything but reaction times. Getting shot at first doesn't guarantee you a loss as long as you can actually out-maneuver and position yourself in a way that can beat the other player, and it's a flow that just never really got old for me no matter how many hours and rounds I played.

Honestly the only reason the score isn't higher is because comparing this to what I did play of the Vibin' season, Chapter 4 felt rushed. The UE5 engine update looks incredible graphically, but stability-wise the game was a mess the entire season. Weapons and abilities continually got temporarily removed and put back in (then repeat for some things) because of bugs and glitches, which was a constant running theme in general. Mantling over small ledges and fences was straight up disabled for over half of the season in a map that was designed around that kind of movement, and a lot of that period of time also had significant almost game-breaking issues like a random coin flip for whether your sprint key would actually function or not. The game may look amazing, but I frankly kind of wish that Epic would've held off on the update if it would mean that the game was more stable for more of the season.

I may have bought the battle pass, and Doomguy being in Fortnite may be really funny, but honestly most of the pass really sucked ass. Some of the worst cosmetics the game has had in years because they're all just so incredibly generic and lacked a consistent theme or style.

There was also some gross new FOMO stuff that was really icky, like actually removing weekly quests at the end of the week which was so blatantly a higher-up decision to try and keep up "player engagement" when it really does anything but (a lesson I really wish Bungie would learn by now). Thankfully it's something that they backtracked on towards the end of the season and so far the new season looks like they're keeping the feedback in mind and not making the same mistakes, but it's always something to be kind of wary of with these live service games even if I do think that Fortnite may be one of the very few out there that I truly do enjoy and don't mind.

i can't say much since i'm very very new to the fortnite scene, but i have a lot of fun playing it! can't stay too mad when i lose when im watching goku hit the griddy LMAO

This game is addicting fun and will actually make me break my wallet. Getting a victory royale (as well as a bunch of kills is so satisfying). The game just needs to be balanced better though.

The new map was pretty good and the hammer was so much fun. However there wasn't a lot to this season outside of that. Still okay though.

Y'know, I think I finally figured out why I have this massive distaste for Fortnite and why I'll likely never truly get into it.

It starts by luring you with all these big events and crazy wacky crossovers. "WHOOA LOOK EVERYBODY, PETER GRIFFIN AND MIGUEL O'HARA ARE DOING THE CHUNGUS SHUFFLE, ISN'T THAT COOL AND WACKY?!?! COME AND JOIN THE PARTY!!!". You see all these characters from across various media coming together and doing silly dances. It's enticing, to say the least. Heck, The Weeknd got added in somehow, so I was already more tempted than ever to return...

...and then when you actually get to playing the game it's filled with some of the most splatty and unsatisfying gunplay I think I've ever seen in a multiplayer shooter and unlocking any cosmetics worth anything either takes an obscene amount of grinding or is locked by an actual paywall. Most of my victory royales came from hiding in remote corners and waiting for everyone else to finish killing each other before picking off the rest.

Can't say I'm not surprised I guess.

Couldn't have asked for anything better. I will gladly pay for Vbucks to have Doom Slayer and kill every lost kid playing on mobile. They better start praying.

Wow, the game’s really stepped it up quite a bit. After Chapter 3 was was kinda… meh, in terms of both gameplay and lore, Chapter 4 has really solidified itself as one of the better seasons.

The battle pass lineup is pretty solid, with some mediocre skins making up some of the pass, as well as some fantastic skins, like the Doom Slayer, Geralt, and, of course, The Ageless, who is heavily implied to be a snapshot of Genō, the game’s overarching antagonist. I still don’t like the modern battle stars system, though.

In terms of gameplay, it’s absolutely phenomenal. The hammer is quite a fun and unique item, and it makes for some great mobility. The new augment system reminds me of the old Spy Games from Chapter 2 Season 2, and it’s really cool. And, of course, we have a surprisingly strong loot pool, consisting of returning favorites, such as the Machine Pistol and the fan-favorite SCAR, as well as a roster of new guns, including the Twin-Mag SMG, the Thunder Shotgun, the Glock-19X wit da stick mag, and more. Oh, and there’s also a fucking My Hero Academia mythic that can one-hit kill anything it touches lmao.

Side Note: Whoever runs this site should know that the picture you’re using as the cover of this, well, it’s not real.

wow! this season kicks ass! i wish that the game didnt shit itself and actually let me play the BR instead of kicking me off after im already on the ground and the storm is already closing in! because im tired of this disadvantage ive just been playing stw but every BR match ive had has been insanely fun every loss still feels fun as fuck. hammers and excalibur are awesome, i like the twin mag and tac pistols, and they kept the DMR! new island is really fun but i still havent been able to explore it because of said situation... i also love the motorbikes and have always died within 30 seconds of hopping on one

sometimes its fun to play with your amigos but its ez to get tired of it

After thinking the Chapter 3 map was very lackluster, I'm glad this new Chapter started sooner. The map felt immediately more interesting and it can only get better in future seasons.

Augments are actually fun, and Slap Juice is a great addition too, I also love the Ex-Caliber. I drifted mid season but I think not many were pleased with Hammer, Deku Smash and other items being very powerful or broken, but otherwise I had a lot of fun and Doom Slayer is a great skin.

This was definitely the most different arc of the game i've experienced so far,
Not only is the map ultra different in a good way but also had me missing the stupid shit i was accustomed to like chonker speedway and the blimps and what not.
The new gear also started off really strong but then it had a fuckin
"Syndrome: When everyone's super, huehuehuehueh nobody will be" type moment where some things were just kinda okay compared to others
I think I also just really miss some of my faves from the previous Chapter
But you know what, the frequent bugs and vaulting and unvaulting of shit? the weapon variety and map locations getting old quick? the hammer discourse? doesnt mean a DAMNNNNNNNNNNNN thing babe because DEKU SMASH WAS IN THIS SHIT HOHHHH!!!!!!!! THE HYPEST SHIT AND THEN AS IF GOD HIMSELF KNELT DOWN TO SUCK MY CLIT, THEY ADD THE FUCKING KAMEHAMEHA!!! COME. ON. AND THEN YOU GET TO DEKU SMASH A N D KAMEHAMEHA IN YOUR WEAPON TOOLBAR??!?! LIKE HOLY FUCK ITS AWESOME
now the kamehameha felt a lil weaker than it did the summer before when it was first in the game, which is a shame but also i fucking love it
i hope they continue to add anime bullshit to the game because it seriously is some of the most fun shit. I saw in the new trailer theyre letting us do 3D Manuever gear attack on titan bullshit and that looks Kinda fun
I imagine it's mechanically similar to that of the spiderman webshooter shit and the new sword. I have pretty high expectations for the new season even if I didnt feel to strongly about the current battlepass or much else than that.
PLUS motorcycles rule aughhh so good

To be honest I always get really surprised when people have critical negative thoughts on each season a pop because I don't think ive played one where it was just boring or not fun or didnt have some kinda neat theme
Doomguy is cool and uhhh
i guess thats kinda it
this is less of a review and more like just shower thought rambling abt how cool i thought this was

great start to a new chapter issues aside
