Forever haunted by this fucking game and the ending thank you goodnight.

This was my first video game, and honestly my feelings are sure to be a tad bit bias. That being said, I think this game was WAY ahead of its time, and the world just feels so goofy and fun to exist in. There's some questionable game design here and there, but generally speaking the game is just so unique and charming. Love it.

I ranked this the same as Misadentures of Tron Bonne... I ranked this four stars... I don't know... This game hurts to rank... It is just so frustrating...

I like this game but I like it because it is a Legends game and it does many of the things I loved about Legends 2... But then it expands on the first game and... I think most of the ways it expands aren't for the best.

So for obvious pluses over the orginal the controls are of course better but as I said in my Legends 1 review, I don't think the controls take long to get used to so that doesn't really do much for me. The missions are more fun in this game so that's something. The story is... better? Better I think? It is more ambitious for sure but... I might still prefer the simplicity of the first game.

Too many characters are introduced who get scraps of screentime, even the Bonnes get very little to do. A big part of this game is meeting Roll's parents but it all just feels... weird? We see Roll's Dad but he has amnesia and she doesn't recognise him... And that's it, we get nothing more. Then we see Roll's mum but there's a bit of a mystery with her, Roll doesn't even believe it is really her mother. This also isn't paied off, by the time they have a chance to interact it is all about Volnutt and Roll stops even mentioning her Mum or Dad, that plot point becomes unimportant and Roll ends up being such a non factor. The whole thing with Sera also just feels like a rehash of the first game.

The world in this game is opened up compared to the first game. There are now multiple islands to "explore". Adding more islands is the natural thing to do considering the concept of the series, I get that... But I just loved Kattelox Island so much, it was one place with so much to see and you really got connected to it by the end of the adventure.

By contrast you never feel connected to any of the people on any of the islands, they just aren't around long enough and the islands themselves just don't have that much to do.

I don't really like the dungeons very much. The gimmicks just worsen the experiences. The fire dungeon is just frustrating and often unfair, the gravity dungeon is super bland and let's not even mention the tragedy that is the water dungeon... NEVER AGAIN!

Combat is slightly better but overall... Nah. Atmosphere is nothing compared to the first game and the dungeons are a disapointment.

eu odeio esse jogo.
eu fui na banquinha do camelô pq eu tinha acabado de jogar mega man x4 e o filha duma puta me vendeu esse.
caraaaalho que filho duma puta voce rogerinho corno manso do caralho cuzao desgraçado ÉGUA

Takes everything the first game did and turns it up a couple of notches. In my opinion a direct upgrade from the first game besides not having the coziness the first game had.

I'm not sure if I missed something, or if this game was just too ambitious for its own good, but I couldn't help but find this game significantly worse than its predecessor.

Legends 1 is very simple compared to this game, but significantly more original and charming. 2 goes for a more Zelda-like approach with specifically themed dungeons, but ultimately they wind up having obnoxious elements that make them way less fun than the ruins of the first game. I'll fully admit that I was extremely frustrated with most of the dungeons of this game, and while that could be a skill issue on my part, it didn't come off as difficult in a way that was fun. I will never complain about the Water Temple in OoT ever again after playing through this game's water themed dungeon. It's like they looked at every criticism that ever existed for water levels in video games, and tailored made a level to hit every single one of those negative checkmarks. There are optional ruins you can explore that are more like Legends 1's, and I found myself enjoying those way more, despite being more basic.

This game also opts for having multiple towns and an overworld map, presumably to make the game bigger and more epic or whatever, but ironically all it does is make each individual town feel less interesting. You never feel as connected to the characters of a specific town in Legends 2 like you do with the people of Kattelox Island.

This game also goes overboard with missions, which aren't hard or anything, but end up taking up way too much of the game. Legends 1 had these too, like defending city hall or finding and defusing bombs, but they were much more spread out and didn't interfere with the meat of the gameplay too much. There are two towns in this game that are almost entirely just these missions, and it gets annoying fast. You have these big open areas that end up being pointless because of how little they're actually utilized.

The story gets expanded upon here, and while it's still good, it does dump a metric fuckton of lore on you at the last minute. Plus, while it tries to expand upon things like Roll's parents and Mega Man's past, I ended up having more questions than answers and it just ends on a cliffhanger. I do like the additional characters (even if they do kind of just randomly decide to fuck off before the end), and the Bonnes are still great. It still has that fun Saturday morning cartoon feel at least. I just wish it was all paced better.

Legends 2 does feel more refined in the gameplay department. The lock-on is mostly more reliable, even if it does like to randomly decide to target something 300 miles away instead of the enemy 3 inches in front of you. There are more cool special weapons that are balanced better and are more useful. There's more variety in general, which I can appreciate. Bosses are more interesting, although that final boss was a massive pain.

In the end though, I can’t help but feel disappointed. Mega Man Legends 2 is far from bad, but it’s definitely lacking a lot of what made the first game great. I can’t help but feel like there was a lot more planned for this game, but due to either budget or time they left it on the cutting room floor and decided to let Legends 3 pick up the pieces. Of course, we all know what happened with that.

This game starts fairly strong but quickly deteriorates into a bit of a mess. The combat lacks balance, the price of upgrades is completely unreasonable, it feels very unfair in places.

Still, the game is not without its charms, the story is serviceable if a bit unsatisfying and the character models/cutscenes look and sound fantastic - especially for a game of this era.

A really disappointing sequel to me. Takes a lot of improvements with its visuals, audio, full analog movement, and expanded areas to run around and throws everything else to the side.

The lack of auto-aim hurt the combat a lot, making simple encounters more of a hassle. That said, the enemy variety is a huge improvement and the bosses are bigger, faster, and far more difficult.

The biggest hit is the world design where the actual towns and overworld areas feel fleshed out, but the dungeons take a huge hit in design. Gone are a lot of varied hills and connectivity and instead are more flatlands and hallways that tend to drag on with an occasional set piece to break it up. It's a change I personally do not enjoy, but the set pieces are cool at times.

Audio is one of the few things I think this game matches the original on. Great score, voice acting sounds more refined, ambience is solid for what there is.

Visuals also got an upgrade with better shading on textures, more cluttered environments in towns/houses to make it feel more lived in. Bosses especially look great in this.

I wish I cared more for this as the story is good, but the gameplay and design as a whole feels like it just takes a big ol' hit in exchange for spectacle. Frustrating but still comes recommended.

it has a 4.0 on backloggd rn so dont even say its bad

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE LEGENDS 3 PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASEEEEEEEEEEE

This game could easily be a masterpiece if not for some stupid development choices it had... the biggest one for me is the Artificial difficulty this game has there are simply too many to count, the game was going perfect for 1/3 of it. I can pinpoint exactly where it starts to go downhill for me, which is by the Nino ruins with a terrible water level. With a boss battle that demands you to do a giant path twice to fight him. One fight in the room key and one near the exit of the dungeon, from this part onwards it seems the game starts to really ramp the difficulty, forcing you to farm for zenny and parts. there are enemies that simply spawn out of nowhere, rooms with enemies that does a ton of damage and take almost none, enemies that take so much waiting to kill, some gimmick enemies that will probably kill you at least one time,
THE STUPID AIM THAT KEEP JUMPING TO THE WRONG TARGET, etc etc.

Despite all those flaws it has a lot of good stuff here too, the story is amazing, the OST is insane, the graphics are impressive for ps1 era.
The game just overflows with charisma...
By the end, we got a heartwarming cutscene with a cliffhanger that is actually funny to think now days... shame megaman legends 3 will probably never happen.

Um dos melhores spin offs de megaman pra mim, espero muito um port prós consoles atuais

Pretty good and a obvious improvement compared to the last one. Although I think some of the RPG elements really ruins a bit of the experience, the grinding can be really frustrating for example. I liked all the dungeons though, expect for the underwater one that was really boring. The game is beautiful, with lot of charm, sadly we will never see a third one

The sequel feels faster in all regards. From traveling to pacing to the analog controls, just about everything feels like it wastes your time less than the original. Weapon upgrades still cost too much. Prefer the story of the original but the characters are still super charming and provide some great moments.

It took me 5 years, but starting with the classic series, then playing X, then Zero, ZX, and now Legends... I am finally done... every single mainline Mega Man game!!!!

This game was a blast. Starting this up with the improved controls was orgasmic, and the graphics actually have improved somewhat.

I feel like with this game there a lot of things that balance each other out. I don't think it was quite as charming as the first game, but I enjoy how we move from one island to another. The dungeon layouts and designs were MASSIVELY improved upon, but non-dungeon story missions were fucking INFURIATING. Chicken level fucking SUCKED, Nino Ruins water SLOW AS FUCK, and the gravity section was kind of annoying too.

The story was interesting, too, but am I alone in thinking it was a little hard to follow? It's cool for what it is, but I want more!! It is a shame MML3 will (probably?) never come out. Who knows... I'd play that shit!!!

Where the original game was played mostly in samey-looking claustrophobic corridors, this added a whole lot of variety in both stage structure as well as mission objectives; this was both good and bad. One minus-point is that the controls didn't evolve enough from the first game to reflect some of the new situations you'd find yourself in, and so I routinely found myself pressing the lock-on button and then turning my back on the FIVE TANKS advancing on me showering me with deadly bullet in order to lock onto one single turret chilling behind me. The very existence of That One Dungeon left enough of a bad taste for me to rank this one slightly below the original in terms of my enjoyment of it.

But in general this was a more than worthy sequel to the first game made with more of the same charm and personality. Some boss battles were really nail-biters (particularly the final boss) but nothing felt overly unfair or frustrating. The voice acting still holds up. I only wish the teased third installment didn't get canned.

Also, I ship Volnutt and Tron (Voltron?) Dont @ me

[MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE GAME]

i've gotta say as much as the legends series has a beloved spot in my heart, i think most of that spot is taken up by the 1st game! mml1 felt super cozy since it took place on one single island (though it was definitely because the team was testing the waters and didn't want to risk making the game too big). i always remember apple market's and uptown's themes because they were such a pleasing tonal difference from the janky tracks in the rest of the game, and the sprites had a nice charm to them.

that being said, i may be looking into it a little too much but i think legends (or maybe just mml2 in particular) draws quite a bit of influence from the tale of kaguya. i would argue that an underlying, unspoken theme of this series is that when there is joy, there is suffering, and vice versa. that suffering and loss is inevitable for humans, but that there is still joy in living. the master is a direct parallel to kaguya, as he felt miserable despite having no hardships on elysium and felt compassion for the carbons and finding joy amidst their hardships. i think volnutt himself is a more vague parallel to kaguya, seeing as he felt the same way as the master and worked hard to destroy the master system. he also gets trapped on elysium, so! actually when you think about it, legends 2 might be a subtly buddhist game. but then again, considering a church is in there for no reason, maybe i shouldn't be looking so deep into a megaman game, haha.

The game that I wanted Legends 1 to be! There are some VERY unfair zenny grinds that are unfortunately necessary to not be miserable in dungeons. I can absolutely forgive it. The opening scene alone is worth every penny!

Probably the best megaman game out there excluding the network series. Just improves everything from the first game and it had a solid ending as well. Feels bad we never got legends 3, but we did get EX-Troopers out of it though.

So where to begin with this, I love this game as much as the original and I had a lot of fun with it. To visit this world and it's wonderful characters once again was a joy

That being said, some aspects were better in MML1, while some are better here...controls are improved for the better, tho it didn't make much difference to me cuz I used a KBM setup and still used that turn around style of the first game since it was more comfy on a keyboard....also not playing on a controller def made the game more comfortable and fun for me this time whew. Auto aim is ass tho but it's kinda unreliable to play without it...it definitely was an ass through the whole game lol.

First of all, I really don't like the darker more serious tone and them trying to introduce all this deeper lore...it's not unwelcome, as the first game ended on a note like this, teasing more to come...but I just prefer the brighter saturday morning cartoon vibe of the first game. All those cozy scenes that took inside Bonnes' ship come to mind...also anyone else find it weird that Bon (BABUU) doesn't even make a physical appearance until midway through the game?

Voice acting, like with the first game is phenomenal. It never fails to make me smile. I say they did a pretty good job with it.

I have seen some examples on why it might not be that accurate though...maybe one day someone will port over the PS1 Dubs to the PSP ports but also make retranslation of the subs since that version has those? Don't get me wrong, I love the dub and it's translation is pretty good...it's no Dreamcast to 06 era of Sonic translations/dubs, that's for sure...

I decked out Mega Man pretty good this time around, I guess experience of the first game and knowing what to expect paid off. Final Boss killed me like 3 times but going back and maxing the Missile's Rapid Fire and Attack helped me out big time, growing my energy canteen and using it sparringly (ever time health went about half, less than half down so it doesnt consume much) helped big time...also using those quiz items, tho I only ended up using one in the last attempt.

All the dungeons I played are pretty good. I hated how stunlocky the game was but thankfully you can get rid of it with a better helmet (still shitty it's a thing in the first place though). I played on Normal and B license though, I didnt go through those extra digs on higher licenses cuz frankly I really don't wanna make this game harder for me lmao.

Ending wasn't as bad as say...Half-Life 2 Episode 2 but yeahhhh cliffhanger...24 years now...pretty damn dissatisfying.

I also fully repaired the Flutter, got all the gifts for it and for Roll, (which means the bathroom scene, making Volnutt see 2 girls naked through this playthrough hehe)

What else...oh yeah fuck Nino dungeon and it's shitty ass underwater slowdowns.

An ideal MML would be the tone of the first game with the gameplay style of this...maybe someday someone will mod the gameplay of MML1 to be like that if not better?

Either way that's that...but luckily I don't have to end the series on this note cuz I haven't played Misadventures of Tron Bonne yet, best girl for the last! Tho definitely not soon lol

Hmm what else...I made sure to not play with any Widescreen hacks this time, so no 2D screens stretched and no weird popins.

IGT was 15 Hours 51 Minutes and 29 Seconds but Emulator time 22 Hours 6 Minutes 33 Seconds...definitely some idle time there hehe

Good game, lost some interest in the ancient lore and stuff (tho I love their designs) and shoutouts to that blue hair killer leather red dress girl in Yosyonke near the grave, she a baddie

i went in to mega man legends 2 cautiously optimistic. legends didnt play very well, but its charming characters, innovative art style, and intriguing worldbuilding and story elevated it into being something memorable
and for the most part, and despite largely feeling like an expansion of the first game, legends 2 manages to keep whats great about legends 1 and actually made the game fun to play. dualanalog goes a long way in a third person shooter like this. it controls better, the levels have some variety to them, youre not stuck on just one island anymore, instead going to various points across the world on this globe-trotting journey in the search for the mother lode, the very thing the first game was building up... and then it ends. im sure you all know how. but its a very abrupt cliffhanger. it makes me realize that its a problem both legends games have. they spend each game building up to this big thing, with all these dangling threads, teasing us, and then ending the game before we get any conclusion. it makes the experiences feel less fulfilling as i dont feel like im getting a full package, even though neither game is very short.
there are also some rather glaring flaws in the game. no matter how high your attack is, you rarely seem to do much damage (i used speedup a LOT in this game), you earn a ton of zenny but eventually the prices in the game begin to skyrocket to ludicrous amounts that you'll need to grind a rare bird in order to make any money late-game, which leads into the next problem, weapon upgrades cost an insane amount and its impossible to know which weapons you should stick with because some of them suck and if you upgraded them thinking that they could be good when improved, like say, the machine gun, well you're shit outta luck because you just wasted all your money on that. oh you got the energy sword from either getting 100 questions right in a row, or by forking over an insane amount of zenny? well using it launches you into the enemy youre trying to attack, damaging you before him somehow and if you wanna upgrade its range, you cant begin to comprehend how much thats gonna cost. doesnt help that some special weapons are the only reliable way to damage bosses, so if you chose one thats not great, then youre in for a slog of a fight. the balancing of money and damage in this game needs a serious overhaul. also you can spend money upgrading a weapons "special" but you have no indication on just what the hell that even means. and if you die in a dungeon its game over and back to the menu, which i find is a bit unreasonable even for the era, especially given how much progress you could lose, and how annoying the dungeons can be to navigate, and how bad some bosses can be.

i wish legends 3 happened, i truly do. but if legends were to ever come back, these games should probably get remakes first, because a collection wont really fix the problems rooted in these games.

A worthy sequel to one of my favorite games of all time, for sure, even if 1 still has a bit more charm.

The cancellation of Legends 3 is one of the greatest tragedies to ever befall any piece of recent media. Get my man off the moon.

A bit more serious tone and lack of charm of the first game, I still love it and I'm heartbroken we've never gotten a follow up to finish the story. #GetMeOffTheMoon

I think a lot of people prefer Legends to Legends 2, but I enjoy the game feeling bigger in scope. The game also just controls better. There's even a control layout option that makes it almost control like a modern third-person shooter.

Good game in a very medium score. The gameplay works a lot with horizontal movement, works well with inground enemies, terrible with airbone attacks. The campaing is short and the story is ok, but is very dependent on knowledge of the predecessor. The character and robot designs are amazing (as usual in the megaman series). And the theme song is beautiful and holds a special place in my memory.

After procrastinating on it for almost dead-on a year, I finally got back to finish off my Mega Man Mega Marathon from last year and play the second Mega Man Legends game. It took a little while to get back into the swing of things in both the narrative and the controls, but I was hoping and blasting again in no time~. I played the Japanese PSP port via my PSTV with a PS3 controller, and it took me around 14 hours to complete.

Continuing from a little bit after where the last game left off, this game has Rock and the crew of the Digouters on a quest to try and find the mysterious Mother Lode by assisting the crew of the giant Sulpher Bottom ship. There’s a beautiful in-game cutscene to open the action with, and that combined with the first brief mission introduce a ton of new hooks to old questions about the history of the world, the nature of the Mother Lode treasure, and just what happened to Roll’s parents. However, as Rock goes off on his quest to find the four keys to unlock the Mother Lode, this original setup isn’t really touched much at all, as each of the four locations involve fairly self-contained stories (or at least ones only distantly related to that initial premise) until we get to revealing and expositioning everything else after our some 10 hour long key hunt. The story isn’t bad, but I definitely preferred how the original game told its story. This game doesn’t seem to be able to decide if it wants to be one longer story or a more episodic adventure, and that indecision of the parts harms the pacing and quality of the whole. This is best exemplified in how the game is just drowning in relatively flat side-antagonists compared to how involved and detailed an experience you got fighting the Bonne family in the first game. Again, I wanna stress that I don’t think it’s a bad story. I just think that the first game’s story is better.

The gameplay is a significant evolution on the gameplay of the previous game. Where we still have dungeons to explore, puzzles to solves, and bosses, now you have a world map where you can fly around in your airship between different hubs. There are a fair few more mini-games in this game, and some fairly annoying bosses at times, but on the whole I think the gameplay, very similarly to the story, isn’t so much “better” than the first game so much as it is very differently focused. We have a much more linear approach to the design here compared to the last game’s bigger emphasis on exploring more and more of one location. Again, I personally prefer the approach the first game takes, but I’d still say that on the whole this game’s dungeon and boss design is more solid than its predecessor’s.

The presentation is once again very good. The way the game’s painstaking use of all sorts of 2D sprites on 3D models once more brings forth that feeling of “playing an anime” that the first game did so well. The music is also once again quite good, but that isn’t a surprise either given the quality of the first game’s tracks.

Verdict: Highly Recommended. As much as I may prefer its predecessor, this is still an excellent game still worth playing. It is a great Zelda-like action/adventure game on the PS1, and if you like that sort of thing, this is definitely not a game to sleep on.
