Overall a scary and entertaining entry in the series. Nothing quite like the exciting first couple of hours wandering around the house carefully, scared to explore but also desperate to find a way out. I don’t think I’ve screamed out loud so many times at a game before.
The first-person perspective is a welcome embrace of the approach popularized by several successful survival horror games in the gap between 6 and 7, and it was a natural way to reset from the heavily action-focused direction the past two entries had taken and bring the series back to its roots - atmospheric dread and horror with a bit of action and camp. Though some of the textures are pretty rough (the forest floors in the area outside the Manor are maybe worse looking than RE4’s similar setting), the graphics overall are beautiful on the new RE Engine. And the characters are intriguing and likeable, even if they’re terrible, crazy people who are trying to kill you. The boss fights are mostly fun (with the second being particularly wild and funny), and the story progression feels good.
I’m excited to play Village now.

If you play Resident Evil 7, you need to play this version.
The base game of RE7 was already a strong experience: with a thick atmosphere, decent gameplay, and gripping story. But, Gold Edition takes everything that made the base game good and builds on it beautifully. The different side modes add new story details and character moments that bring closure to the main game and make it better in hindsight. The added gameplay variety is an excellent touch as well; there are a whopping 8 sidemodes added in this package, at least doubling the amount of content from the standard game, and no two modes play alike. I liked every single side mode to some degree, and I can't imagine the game without them.
Re7's DLC package may be among the best in gaming history, and I can't recommend the game without it.

An amazing RE game that becomes more immersive and terrifying with the perspective change. It might have a few things that dock it such as a certain section and enemy type but it is no doubt one of the best games I've played. A VR mode and additonal content added as part of this collection makes it worthwhile
The intro of this game has to be the most pretentious and boring shit I've ever had to see in any videogame (and on top of that you can't even skip it) I've read several times that many people don't get past the intro because it makes them "terrified", what it makes me feel is: "ZZZ" and makes me want to turn off the console.
I'm just not interested in playing a "treehouse of horror" for the umpteenth time, I never minded the gradual change that Resident Evil had from "horror" to action (in fact I think it was an important step for it not to stay stuck in the same as silent hill or fatal frame, among others).
RE4 is falsely accused of killing the "horror" when since "RE3 Nemesis" with the tank controls Jill could dodge a giant monster attack as if it were a matrix.
I understand the change after all those trailers of RE6 where it showed that it would return to its origins to once released not fulfill any promise and be an orgy of quick time events (which was a game that went overboard with that) but Capcom understands as "SURVIVAL" to limit terribly the actions of the avatar as if it were of yesteryear (And this applies to RE2 remake also)
Plus: put the voices in Japanese and you will have the best unintentional comedy of your life

Nails atmosphere and setting. Dark, scary, yet creative and imaginative a lot of times. Great pacing, with pauses to make you think about the big moments in the story. Ship at end is boring, and house could’ve had more interesting rooms and puzzles. Enemies are pretty repetitive, same with weapons. Does not really change up. But baker family is great, battles are great. DLC is super great, redfield punches the shit out of molded its great. Adds so much to story and gameplay.
Replay/watch with friend edit: game is not that scary until u play it. Story kinda sucks in terms of plot convenience. Tapes suck. Battles suck. Puzzles and rooms r good tho. Atmosphere good. Ship alright. house is great. much worse on replay bc cutscenes and lot of filler

Easily the most disturbing entry in the Resident Evil series. The game's antagonists, the Baker family, steal the spotlight. Whether it's Jack taunting and stalking you through the dilapidated house, Marguerite's twisted sense of maternal instincts, or Lucas's sadism channeled through "Saw" inspired games and traps, the game manages to keep you in a constant state of anxiety. The gameplay isn't particularly innovative but it's solid and gets the job done. Gunplay feels natural over time and acquiring better firearms and upgrading them provides a noticeable boost and sense of progression as you play. A few minor gripes keep me from giving this five stars. "The Molded" are the cannon fodder enemies and quickly overstay their welcome. Their design is decent and they work for their role but you soon find yourself desiring a bit more variety in encounters. Then in typical Resident Evil fashion, the first 2/3 of the game are stellar and they completely lose you in the final act with a jarring change of setting and pacing. However those issues aside, this entry in my opinion stands out as the best and most memorable of the series. A worthy reboot that should not be passed on for appreciators of survival horror, be they casual or hardcore.
