I am treating this review as if I were reviewing both of the original games because Return To Arkham was my first foray into the Batman Arkham series. Arkham City is the best in the entire series with its heavy Joker presence but Arkham Asylum is not too far away from it. Asylum is a lot more linear which I think serves as a nice entry into the franchise, and City is where Batman truly shines in an open world Gotham City. They both look great with their respective remasters and are a great introduction to anyone looking to get into superhero gaming. Definitely some of my favorite games I've had the pleasure to experience.
Asylum: Due to me having played and completed Arkham knight before this. i thought i might struggle with enjoying a batman game set in a very small area. However, the asylum is so densely packed with detail, physical space and unique areas relevant to the main story that it is easily on par with Arkham Knights Gotham. As is typical with the Arkham series the combat can be as simple or as intricate as you like depending on how many of the combos you deign to learn. Conroy and Hamill make the main characters, and their dynamic makes the story so much more enjoyable. 4 stars

The two first Arkham Games have aged like fine wine. Take the comicky story and closed setting from the first, and the improved combat mechanics and tighter controls from the second, and you'd have a perfect action game.
In a vacuum, they're respectively "only" excellent. Which... you know, isn't all that bad either.

Finished Arkham Asylum of Return to Arkham. Loved it, love the gameplay, the aesthetic and just the general feel of the game works really well. The Riddler Challenges in these aren't that much of a bother, quite fun actually. The story itself is quite good for a standalone game as well as I think this is the best game to get into the superhero genre and follow the Arkham series.
I started the series with Arkham Knight, and decided to go back and play though the series properly. I can't believe how good this game is, the story isn't crazy complex but compelling enough to keep you gripped and driven to get to the endgame. The game mechanics at times are clearly dated and could prove occasionally frustrating, but also that is part of the fun of the game, grappling to make sure you're the coolest looking batman going. A great first entry to the series with style and action that really makes you feel like you truly have become Batman. Top notch, recommended for any Batman fan!
It's a bit stupid that this item is considered one game on this platform, because i'm filling up my gaming log by looking at the trophies, and of course the trophies are separate for the two games. Anyway, the original Asylum game is the first and the best of the Batman games. That fucking Scarecrow sequence is haunting to this day. This is the dark, noir mood I want all of my Batman content.
