The most fun complete dogshit you will ever play.
- Guard cancels into any special
- Untechable throws
- No damage scaling
- Infinite supers when 10 seconds left or low health
- Every character pulls insane bullshit
A wonderful mess to have fun with.

Recently, I've been taking the time to revisit one of my childhood favorite anime, Sailor Moon. Starting with my "rewatch" of Sailor Moon Crystal, since I had never actually finished that one. In the midst of this nostalgia trip, I suddenly remembered hearing tales of just an absolutely abominable fighting game under the Sailor Moon name, and thought to try it out. Janky can be fun, right?

After doing some research, pulling up the Dustloop page that I was shocked to learn existed, and studying a bit on what did what against an idle Player 2, I hopped into the story mode with my personal all-time favorite, Sailor Mercury. I did not put any time into any other characters, I merely wanted to play as my favorite.

To start, I want to go over Sailor Mercury's playstyle. She is remarkably mobile, touting the fastest walk speed in the game and the fastest sweep. Her projectiles are also great at dealing with a multitude of situations, whether it be simple zoning, or even anti-airs. Of course, she comes with her drawbacks as well. Her damage output is rather disappointing, and under poor conditions, she doesn't do the best job at staying on defense. She does, however, have a bit of a simple game plan. Mercury, more than anything, wants to push you into the corner and keep you there with her number one tool, the tornado (or "Mercury Aqua Mirage"). A fast anti-air projectile that can quite literally keep you blockstunned in the corner forever, assuming you have the consistency to keep it up.

This is what's fucked up to me, though. What is the input for Mercury Aqua Mirage? Well, it's a Tiger Knee Motion. The old Tiger Knee Motion. 2369P, or if you're unfamiliar with numpad notation, ⇓⇘⇒⇗P. Maybe I'm just not enough of an oldhead to enjoy this sort of thing, but good god if this is not one of the most awkward inputs ever, especially when it's the most prominent tool in her kit. So I almost never used it. What I instead learned, was that the story mode AI simply does not know what to do against sweeps. It could just be, as I said, Mercury having the fastest sweep in the game, but I spent nearly the entire campaign spamming knock down after knock down after knock down. If they blocked it, tough, she's still the fastest character in the game; walk up and do it again. Once I had a strong enough lead, it was time to backdash into the corner and spam her faux Sonic Boom. I also made use of her ground throw whenever possible, but it wasn't for a few matches until I realized that her throw, in fact, leaves her minus on tech by everybody. Real good one.

This worked out pretty damn nicely, up until Stage 10. Sailor Uranus. There is no winning against Sailor Uranus. AI or not, there is no winning against Sailor Uranus. And I'm not fully convinced that they didn't know this, given that she's (as far as I could tell) the final boss of the story mode, and that her "bugs" are exclusive to the player 2 port. Dustloop lists over half of her moveset as useless, if you're not performing the infinite, you're fishing for the infinite. If you're not doing either of those, you're doing something wrong. What the fuck.

This game is actual garbage, but in a very lmao kinda way. Objectively broken, objectively unbalanced, but I can still admit that it's funny as hell. A top tier kusoge, and I will not be playing it again.

i'll congratulate it on being my second ever 1.5* rating, though. i'd say fuck uranus, but...

This game is hilarious. 100% a kusoge, full of weird balace decisions and mechanics, but it's also one of the best fighting games of the system, very responsive and feels great to control.

The playable characters can do some funny stuff:
Everyone can do infinite supers when they have low hp, and those supers do a ton of damage
Chibimoon can become fully invincible by chaining backdashes
Mercury has super quick walk speed
Jupiter has a crazy air fireball that comes out in a weird angle and does more damage on block
And, of course, Uranus is the best character in the game. She is a grappler (!) with a really fast forward dash that covers the whole screen

Peak Kusoge I fear. Jupiter has a projectile that does more damage on block than on hit.

better fg than most anime fg's/normal fg's i've played tbh

Dude why is the balancing ?'!?! this is KUSOGE GAME. you can change You're stats and shit. KUSOGE! keep it up fgc i love yuo and am so proud of the epic fgc memes. memer. KUSOGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love figbt games

In a cruel and twisted way some of the most fun I've ever had in a fighting game. One trillion stars, Sailor Moon S Sweep

WHO'S BRITGHT IDEA WAS IT TO GIVE A GRAPPLER A COMMAND DASH AND A ZONER A REVERSABLE SUPER

Oh right, it was ArcSys. Yes, ArcSys made this game

why do I kinda want a remake of this game to happen

very very fun game with some serious jank but that honestly gives it character. Every character has their own fucked up thing they can do like Jupiter's frame 1 command grab she can guard cancel into.

Profoundly fun game, the most functional SNES fighter IMO. Very fast paced with plenty of interesting powerful characters (I personally like Mars, Jupiter and Venus), and fun mechanics such as the insane Guard Cancel system.

Strong recommendation for whoever likes 2D fighters

One of those games from the ''Dark Past'' of Arc System Works, SUPER BROKEN but it has a big circle of competitive players.

This game may be broken but it's one of the few SNES fighters that has responsive controls, a legitimate meta, Sailor Mercury, and comes packed with a proper training mode AND a viewable in-game command list.
