A very solid core. Pricey. All of the best stuff, musically and chart-wise, comes from crossover packs- the actual MUSIC in the base game is mediocre modern rhythm game naptime. I miss when the default genre for rhythm games was eurobeat...
The ability to play every song in 4, 5, 6 or 8 button is neat in theory, I think, but I've never really understood the appeal of 5-button and 8-button has always felt really awkward to me. 4-button is a bit too simple and easy once you're experienced but it's a great on-ramp to learn. The issue is, in practice, I enjoy 6-button way more than anything else, but not all songs are playable on all difficulties on all button modes, making the song list sometimes feel artificially smaller. Your mileage may vary on that, if you like the variety of trying different control schemes it means you're getting a lot of bang for your buck with a ton of different charts available for each song.

It's a rhythm game of all time, I guess. The gameplay itself is nice, and the charting is smooth, but the microtransactions are absolutely wild. The song packs do not deserve to be this high of a price, especially for a 50-dollar base game. The 60GB+ storage space isn't worth how simple the game is, either. It'll be hard to pick this game back up, especially with how long it'll take to download.
Impressions (Can play upto 3 star songs; 4 keys)
- Very high production values
Every time you open Freeplay, the menu hypes you up like a beat drop. Navigating menus to playing, feels premium.
- Song selection
Not familiar with Korean music scene, but so far I really liked the songs.
- Battle Pass
Dunno why there is (adds cool cosmetics but that's it), even when there's DLC song packs.

So, I like this game. A lot. It's one of three rhythm games I hold in high regard (other two being Rhythm Heaven Fever and Gitaroo Man), but for me to be even comfortable talking about it in the same space as the other two requires me to make a very hefty disclaimer about the absolute mountain of DLC content this game has. It also has seasonal battle-passes! It has the worst monetization I've ever seen in a rhythm game, to be blunt, which makes it hard for me to recommend to anyone despite how much fun I find it.
It's really a personal call if you're comfortable spending that much money on a game when it's already very similar to free alternatives like osu!mania (although I despise the feel of playing that game), so I'm trying not to tank my rating for this game due to how uncomfortable the monetization makes me. Although, it is bad enough for it to have impacted my enjoyment of the game, so I can't completely divorce the two.

I had the chance of collecting most of the expansions for cheap and. Holy shit this game just has so much.
Also, getting to use all my 10 fingers in a rhythm game is (for me) a completely new experience. I was very much of a 4K purist before.
I got utterly blasted at this (8B) but recently I can get through some of the hard charts. Not maximum nor SC yet but hopefully someday.
I barely noticed whatever anti-cheat system the game has. Though it has to be noted that I have a beefy laptop right now so.

Pretty fun rhythm game, though the track choices didn't really impress me too much. Felt a bit too scattered. In one sense, having a wide variety of music is great, but it also meant that there wasn't as much that suited my tastes. But what was there was good. Just really a personal taste thing. Maybe look up a track list before buying.
i am so tired of microtransactions
those aside... the game in of itself is largely really solid. the music rules, the controls feel great ! i have tested both keyboard and dualshock controls, ultimately sticking with keyboard at the present moment. even on my cranky ancient laptop it runs pretty decently, which is always a pleasant surprise for me.
