Really stunned by the combat depth available here, and the control / move parity between this handheld rendition and the base Fatal Fury games. It's short, difficulty ramps nicely, and the sprite work is a beautiful interpretation of the series through intense limitation. All in all a really fun handheld fighter for fans of the series, and a good way to experience the franchise casually for new players.

This is mostly nostalgia but i loved this game.

Twenty-third GOTW finished for 2023. Again, surprising amount of depth for a two-button fighting game, but this being my second NGPC fighter I'm starting to get the distinct impression that these are all fairly similar in their style and gameplay. Short and sweet with a simple but fun art style!

these pocket color fighting games tend to be pretty similar gameplay wise, so i'll definitely be comparing them when reviewing (though they're all worth playing in their own right). with that said, i did miss the inclusion of the story mode that SNK VS Capcom had, but there's just something so cool about the fatal fury franchise that i think i may have enjoyed this one just a bit more. fatal fury games have so much style and flair to them (especially with Real Bout and onwards) that i just don't think many other fighting games could top for me. fucked up that they don't have duck king in here though
