This game is a must own for anyone with a DS! As for people whom are simply curious about what the DSI experience was like, still I recommend this game because it demonstrates the sheer creativity and fun factor these DS titles could show off. You play as a kid, digging up fossils, bringing them back to life to fight in tournaments and thwart the plan of evil fossil thieves. The actual act of finding fossils, cleaning them up, and making them battle is super fun. The graphics are great and pleasing to the eye. The soundtrack fits the tone and makes the games world feel like it has a cultural identity. Lastly, the story mode is engaging and when paired with the satisfying gameplay it makes for a complete package.

A dear game from my childhood, and im glad to replay this game and see the formula is still fun and addicting
Although compared to its sequel, it is a little worse for wear
Timeless ost, a silly and goofy story too.... not much else i can could ask for!

Hidden Gem of the DS, Rivals pokemon in terms of monster fighters.

If you look at the rest of the games in my Backlogg (TM), I bet you wouldn't expect this one to be there.

FUCK YEAH ONE HUNDRED POINTS

probably one of the best games that no one talks about

i saved dina at the end then felt bad and used the time machine to go back and save rosie instead

This game was not hyped up enough. I was just expecting simple dinosaur battles but instead got a fun combat system and interesting aliens lore. One of the best DS monster tamers I've ever played.

this game is the true definition of nostalgia for me, although imo it still holds up. the story is pretty fun, but the gameplay is the real star for me. combat is pretty good, but in particular i LOVE the excavation mechanic. i love this game so very much my favorite vivosaur is pachysaurus <3

Such a sleeper of a game. Enjoyable and definitely a wild storyline. I wish this game got a new one for the Switch.

It feels rude to bully a polygonal DS game like this, but Fossil Fighters is uncomfortably ugly. From tip to tail the game feels like an under-baked cash-in, poorly implementing hand-me-down ideas from Pokemon and Monster Rancher, but bereft of any depth, heart, or budget. I've only spectated Spectrobes over a friends's shoulder on the bus, but it was enough for me to know that it completely blows this out of the water.

Fighting and digging up dinosaurs. I am a simple person.

This is one of those nostalgia/comfort games I replay every few years. I enjoy it a lot for what it is, but realistically if you’re playing this game in 2024 it’s not for the first time.

Honestly, a really cool creature-tamer! I don't see how this could be seen as naught more than a "Pokémon knockoff"; the only thing about this that could be compared to anything from Pokémon is the touchscreen minigame where you break things out of rocks, and even then, I shouldn't have to remind anyone that Pokémon didn't invent digging.

Even these days, it's still plenty fun and has lots of depth! I'm aware that it's easy to write this praise off as nostalgia goggles talking, but I for one played the game in 2023, so I don't have that excuse. I'm just a sucker for great creature-tamer games, and Fossil Fighters is definitely one worth playing, DS touchscreen gimmick minigame and all!

Core childhood memory for a kid who loves dinosaurs

they should make an entire game for the excavation part

Childhood goggles on for giving this an 8/10 but idc, love it! Combat is fun enough to feel strategic, and it uses the DS touch screen with cleaning fossils in a fun way. There's enough depth to team composition that there isn't a complete set best team (at least not one i could pull off). The story is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS and i kinda love it. Worth playing in the modern day? I'd say yes if you want a good creature collector game.

Great game on the ds that im sad didn't get as popular as it should have because what the game has is really good. The story is surprisingly good for what most would call a shovelware title. The visuals for everything but the fights leave a lot to be desired but call me nostalgia blind but that is really charming for this game. The games battle mechanics are simple but still very enjoyable and the fossils are so much fun.
The fossil finding mechanic is in my opinion very fun and nothing feels better than going out and finding a new fossil but I can see how some may find it tedious. The place where this game shines the most though is the excavation mechanic for cleaning fossils because that minigame is still fun every time i play it. It baffles me that this game only sold 890,000 copies.

Definitely nostalgia pilled, but I loved this game as a kid. The fossil cleaning system is tough to perfect, and gives you a lot of incentive to take your time. I won't lie, it's harder to replay now that I'm older, but hopefully this game gets more attention in the future.

15 years later and it's still peak

Good game but those vertical line fossils made me wanna die in real life 💯

The middest game that never ends

I liked the pink haired girl as a kid and I liked the plot and world of this game alot cause I really liked dinos as a kid and i read books abouT DINOS

i’d have to replay the game to give it a completely honest rating because i was 8 when i last played, but man this is the most sleeper ds game ever.
