Gravity Rush 2 masterfully embodies the special feeling that is "the joy of motion," letting its movement mechanics speak with, but never in place of its beautifully realized world.

The first game felt special, it was a short great adventure with a really creative movement mechanic, this one though...didn't feel good enough. The game expands on everything the first game did, for better and worse, the world, music and style are amazing, the first couple of chapters feel great in the new entry but the missions and story quickly became more and more repetitive and boring and finally made me abandon this game on part 3, I may come back to it but for now it doesn't have a lot of stuff to keep me interested.

From the get go, this game is bigger than the first by at least 4x the amount. I think this screamed to me even more that the first game was made for the Vita. The way the sequel takes the PS4 power and in an absolute chad move, 3/4 through the game to massive areas essentially live in the same plane. Making for a grand scale of how BIG this game is and the power of the system.
Gravity Rush 2 is able to show from world design to gameplay just how much it improves on the first game.
So about that gameplay huh? The main crux of this series is it's unique gameplay. Taking floating combat to a whole new level. I didn't think I needed the first games combat to be expanded on but they did a fantastic job here. They add two new styles that suit the games themes really well on top of making it super easy to change between the two.
It adds the element of swapping out styles depending on the enemy you're fighting which you do see in a lot of video games but thankfully it doesn't overstay it's welcome here.
They made combat that was already solid into an even more refined version which is fantastic to see a sequel do.
Sadly my one gripe comes with the gameplay and that is purely due to one level in particular that requires you to move gravity within a tight space that makes your camera go wild and your sense of direction go even worse.
I hated this particular segement. It made sense for the game to do the level like this but from a user experience, I just don't think a game like Gravity Rush works in tighter spaces.
As far as problems go, this is such a small issue.
Onwards and upwards and even downwards to the story. I love every second of it. I adore the plot that is told in each chapter from class systems to sense of belonging to the struggles of wanting to help everyone. This game has such a strong point to make and it does it so well with new character's and expanding on older ones.
Even the crazier plot lines especially towards the end feel really good and really in line with what the series has had baked since the first entry. This game as a whole shouts out the idea that everyone is equal. It amazes me how good of a person Kat is and how little she asks in return. She has a sense of naiveity in the first game that ends up being expanded into the idea that she just wants everyone to be okay.
Which shines so freakin hard towards games climax.
To even further portray this games story and themes, I have to point out it's excellent soundtrack. The songs that are picked for this game give off such a strong emotion, it is so incredible to hear every track. It sets the tones between each area so well.
The rich part of town has a fantastic catchy tune that shows wellness.
The market part of town has a bustling frantic song that has you bopping along and feeling ready for a day on the beach side.
And the poor part of town as you descend into darkness, gives a sad sound for your entire time there.
The music in this game is excellent from start to finish and truly deserves so much praise.
Overall, Gravity Rush 2 is a confident sequel that gives you 4x the amount of content as well as providing you with so many answers and questions that I can only hope this series somehow comes back again.
My only downside is a singular segment that is so easily move passed.

One of the most underrated Sony exclusives and one of my personal favorite games ever.

The original GR was a great title, ment to showcase the power of the PS Vita by combining a great combat and exploration similar to the PS4 SPiderman games, with unique ways to manipulate gravity around you, slightly reminiscent to titles like Super Mario Galaxy.

The sequel improves on the original in any possible way: the gameplay and gravity manipulation in much more fluid, the camera is less stiff, and the exploration now include much varied landscapes, that makes you want to explore this really creative world and even discover the ramifications of the society that lives in.

Kat, the protagonist, is one of the most charming super-hero character you can see in a videogame, and her journey towards this new and old world is an amazing experience to play.

Some sections of the game can be a bit slower than others, and the overall narrative can be... confusing, at times. But these flaws rarely impact the quality of the title.
The amount of passion the developers put into this game is so evident it's almost breathable. It truly feels like a giant passion project for the team of Japan Studio, that is evident in so much details of this title (in the game there is even a memorial for Norihiko Takami, one of the lead designer for the series that sadly passed away). Level of dedications like these are rarely found in triple A titles nowadays.

Gravity RUsh 2 is an aboslute masterpiece. Even if you haven't played the first title, I highly recommend it.

So far, this is the perfectly sequel and improves everything on the first game (Camera might spazz out still tho) Currently going for all trophies atm. Likely gonna have the platinum before the remastered version drops

my rating for a game is based on a simple question: "how much fun did you have?" and even if a game has flaws, if i loved it i will still give it five stars.

gravity rush 2 is an Experience. it's both exhilarating and heartbreaking for reasons both in and out of universe. there's so much lore to be expanded on, and it'll never be expanded on to the degree it requires because japan studio is gone. both in and out of universe, the world of gravity rush ended up being a fleeting dream (this isn't a spoiler, gr1 elaborates on this!), and tbh yeah i really think a gravity rush 3 is needed, even though it'll never happen. the only discussion i can find on this game is from Gamers who only play AAA games and complain about every little thing in the game, weebs who "correct" anyone who dares imply kat isn't straight and complain that the movie will have "diversity sjw garbage" or whatever, and people who are incredibly weird about female characters in games, and even outside of that like 90% of discussion on the game is comments on how "underrated" it is without actually saying anything about it. i however have collected a pro-con list i know nobody will make it to the end of that sums up my thoughts. it's, as anyone will tell you, full of charm to the max

LOVED

++ raven's ai is SCARY competent and whenever she's with me she. kind of ends up leading the mission. she's a better fighter than i am and she cleans up after me a lot and i might just say she's the most competent ai ally in any game i've ever played (i'm staring daggers at lost judgment right now btw)

++ raven's kind of an mvp in this game

++ i adore the addition of sidequests and i don't care if some of them weren't great. it added so much to make the world feel a little bit more alive, and many side story npcs reappear, be it more substories or just conversations. it gives you a glimpse into the lives of everyday people in the world of gravity rush. you can continue the legacy of jingle all the way and race people to get the last stock of the hot new doll as a gift. you can do a demon summoning ritual with some schoolgirls. you can dress up as a superhero to advertise ice cream. all of that and more. it felt a lot like how yakuza builds its world if you'll excuse me going yakuza brain again

++ there's two returning characters and the way kat interacts with them is both bittersweet and wonderful for character building. her chirpy "power through it" attitude falters and often vanishes around these two and idk if the game intends it but her interactions with these two are as important as main story beats characterwise

++ the social features are amazing?? the camera, the gestures, the costumes. on par with many ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAMES in this regard despite not needing to be

++ the game's use of musical motifs is GORGEOUS and works in a big way. if you know you know

++ gravity rush has a habit of going full NieR when it gets serious and i love love LOVE it

LIKED

+ kali angel

+ syd is 100 times more interesting in this game

+ there's actually bosses you CAN'T unga bunga and requires combat instincts

+ your honour they're lesbians

+ i'm glad to hear more of the game's conlang. it's like a mix of japanese and french i love it

MIXED

++- game world is INSANE and i like jirga para lhao even better than hekseville but it feels like an out of control minecraft smp server in terms of structures. navigating by landmarks isn't really very easy and even after finishing the game i open the map every few seconds to figure out where i'm going. some areas have too many stairs, some not enough, dead ends where npcs walk and then turn around immediately, isolated plazas with no actual pedestrian access (leaving me wondering how people living here would get anywhere)

+- i loved it but the final act should have been an entire third game, and felt kind of rushed

+- the game's social critiques are a little basic, not to the point of "why can't we all just get along :(" or both sides-ism but it makes it feel like a game from a decade earlier in terms of social attitudes. however i do like that the angry centipede still got more depth than some other games would give them

+-- jupiter style's surge kick is satisfying but the mission where you get it is the WORST

NEUTRAL/NOT THE GAME'S FAULT

/ my hair's got red streaks in it already and i love raven so i'm REALLY tempted to go full red

/ i wish i could have remapped style switches to the d-pad and none of the preset layouts allow that. maybe that's yakuza 0 brain talking (especially as jupiter style scratches the same itch beast style does)

/ sony didn't give this game a chance and killed its online server after 18 months, only 18 due to fan backlash, and it was meant to be taken offline after a year. it's genuinely heartbreaking to get hit with the "the online service has ended" message every time i finish a challenge and it never gets any less sad to see. it also means a lot of stuff is impossible to legitimately acquire

/ there is a point where the game reminds you this is made by the same guy who made silent hill. this is not a plus or a minus because i have no words for it. you will know what point.

DISLIKED

- challenges pay peanuts as before and there's less gems everywhere. grinding mines was something i didn't wanna do either

- no rp walking :( i bumped into a fair few people in lei cosmolna and made them drop their stuff

- gravity sliding is somehow worse than in gr1

-- far far far far far far FAR too many stealth missions. some good, some awful, mostly just barely tolerable. like half of this game's missions were stealth and they could have used more variety bc they def had some creative sidequests

this is a game that will stay with me for...quite a while. merch is nonexistent, the one fanzine i could find is impossible to obtain, most characters who aren't kat or raven have no cosplay that i know of, some characters have little to no fanart...i wish i could do my part in making sure gravity rush isn't forgotten

ok that's all i go now goodbye

atmosphere - VIBE
music - VIBE AS FUCK
KAT - THE GOAT

Diferenciado virado na desgraça 10/10

ESSE JOGO É O MAIS INJUSTIÇADO DA NOSSA GERAÇÃO

improves everything that the first game did while adding new stuff to it that's just as good, the music and the gameplay is still really fun and visually it looks great too, please bring this series back sony, there is so much potential

I played until I felt the story concluded, and I remember thinking it wasn't much of a story. Turns out I neglected to follow the shining girl and didn't really finish it. I'd had enough, anyhow...

loved this game so much that I didnt even complete it

Why didn't this franchise take off? Oh? Its unique? Ah that's why.

I miss Sony's smaller studios so much man.

i absolutely love the migraine this game gives me every time

Bit weirder than the first one but I like that. More zero gravity adventures. Underrated PlayStation series.

Super underrated. Very unique with a lot of character. The controls can be wonky/frustrating at times though.

A masterful follow-up and one of the best looking PS4 games to date. With a major gameplay improvements in the fighting and already unique traversal system but with a slightly worse pacing and slightly disappointing ending in my opinion. Still...it takes its place in my Top 3 list of favourite PS4 titles righteously.

beautiful, great soundtrack, standout movement system, and then they've paired it with some of the worst stealth, combat, and mission design i've encountered in the ps4 generation. not to mention a ton of the world's charm is absent now that the game's online has been stripped out. it feels more iterative than a sequel should, and it lacks the butter-smooth 60fps feel of the first game's ps4 re-release. still, if you want to zone out and collect gems, this game finds its own meditative charm. i'd rather find creative ways to fall up and float around in gravity rush 2 than hold R2 to swing in Spiderman.

It's like returning to the insultingly charming boutique I mentioned in my GR1 review, where you find a myriad of new mannequins, all uniquely posed with the other older mannequins to create a group photo of style and charm; frozen in time.

Gravity Rush 1 felt like a very enjoyable showcase of a unique movement system and I was hoping the sequel could fully realise the potential of that engaging movement and improve the admittedly lacking story.

For me, this game did neither of those. Instead, the huge majority of missions opt to avoid or completely remove the only fun element of these games (traversal) in favour of countless boring stealth and combat sections. Such a disappointing sequel.

This game is really fun and a cool chill pick up. It has a good soundtrack and level design but, in my opinion, there are some chapters better than others.
I really didn't enjoy that much the Jirga Para Lhao chapter... I struggled a bit with this game during that part but it got better when Raven first appears.
From the moment when you reach Hekseville until the Eto Chapter, this game is GOATED. The Eto Chapter specifically, I did not expect any of what happened! The climb itself of the world tree was already making me happy and what awaited me at the top was something I could never expect.

Please give this game a try if you haven't already, the story is really good and more than enough to entertain you. The gameplay is not great but not that bad either (I don't really like the combat but everything else of the gameplay itself is good).

Masterpiece of a sequel, made me cry

Objectively a better game than the original but I didn't care too much for the story or the new bells and whistles.

Lots of mixed feelings. First, combat, nothing but improvements. I love the new lunar and jupiter styles, they add a much needed variation. On the other hand, the camera is a mess, it's all about movement but it is way too close and way too shaky. The Panther style (the best one) doesn't have this issue, but sadly you'll rarely see it and it shows very late. There are quite a few issues on the way the game feels that I did not have with the first one. Somehow the combat was better before (and you can use all of the abillities from the first one). I am guessing that Bluepoint Games really polished the hell out of the remaster making it simply feel better. The plot is a mess, there is about 4 arcs that could be told separately. Each of them are abruptly cut without much sense of resolution or pacing. Some cool ideas here which I enjoyed but none are fully fledged. The world feels huuuge, it's amazing how you can drop from a city, live and find ANOTHER city below. On the downside the world sucks and it barely feels alive, this game has the dullest and most uneventful side missions you'll see, who cares about finding a lost toy!? The gem economy is not good, you can finish the plot, all the side missions and every challenge and you still won't have even half of the gems to max out Kat.
