I have a lot of memories with this game and it is honestly really fun, but a lot of people overlook it. Me and my friend play this every now and then and have hours of fun. I'm pretty sure this was one of the first introductions I have had to the Half-Life series funnily enough. Decent online shooter, nothing crazy but not bad.
I was NOT expecting to have this much fun before playing it, the gravity gun really makes you see every map layout differently when human players are involved. I keep seeing people lament the lack of players, but here in Europe I can get into +8 people servers more than not.
The gravity gun is maybe a bit broken but everyone starts with it and it would be quite a generic shooter if people weren't incentivized to use the physics engine so it gets a pass.
Honestly my biggest gripes with the game is the severe lack of maps, specially when I would have loved to get deathmatch games in maps from Episode One and Two, and just how unclear it is to know when does the respawn invul timer ends. Also the rocket launcher is incredibly broken and not in a fun way like the gravity gun, there everyone started with it and you could catch their own projectiles. With the rocket launcher they just need to aim in a 20 meter radius and you are as good as dead.
Aside from that, this is an incredibly fun time with an unique feel even amongst the other Valve online shooters.

I guess its kind of fun to just run around a big map and kill other players with no other goal, but it just kind of gets boring after a few minutes. Also there aren't that many players on, but there will probably be a few decently full servers to join. You could probably have more fun doing the same thing in gmod.
The best deathmatch I have ever played. Half-Life 2 has some of the best guns In video games ever. I love how you can just pick up stuff and chuck it at people with the gravity gun. If timed right you could even pick up and chuck a grenade at someone with it. It was perfect that full lobbies were playing this and I felt like it was still very alive. I love the gunplay and the aesthetics I recommend better than your average deathmatch.
