Halo wars was a pleasantly surprising game as im not one for top down strategy games but this one hooked me.
For starters i think the controls were very well adapted to controllers as most of these type of games that come to consoles usually have very bad controls as they dont convert well from pc so big probs for that. This game is also a blast if you're playing with friends and ive spent countless hours doing many different challenges on halo wars with a friend of mine. Also enjoy the learning curve to this game understanding what units are suitable for each map what are the best bases to control ext. Definitely the best halo spinoff compared to whatever halo spartan assault was.
However for negatives id say that the campaign in this game is pretty boring and i preferred the campaign in 2s, the maps can also get pretty boring after you've played the game so much as there arent that many to chose from and playing against legendary ai get ready to combat some of the most bs things the game can throw at you and it'll just take alot of luck and patience to defeat the legendary ai.
Overall though i love this game and id say its better than the 343 halo's. Definitely play it if you're unsure as im not a big fan of this genre yet this has come out as one of my favourite multiplayer experiences with my friends

I enjoyed my time with this game, even if most of it comes from playing an RTS for the first time again and not from the Halo part.
This game's set 20 years before Halo 1, so there's an entirely new crew we get accustomed to. I guess they fit the bare minimum? Forge is the most charismatic guy there but he's nowhere near Johnson. Serina has some sass to her but she still feels like a more generic AI, probably the result of being tied to an army instead of a single Spartan. A new Arbiter is much more cruel and unaware of the Prophet's manipulation and while it's cool seeing another one it's kind of sad knowing that there can only be one with depth.
There are a handful of issues here: the pathfinding is very janky. The campaign has a difficulty spike in like the third or fourth mission, whichever one is the mission where you have to defend three ships. My dumbass thought I could run this on Heroic like the mainline games and got my ass kicked there multiple times.
God, I just wish Halo would experiment with more genres. We get twin stick shooters and a sequel to this game and then nothing else. I should stop before I start getting mad at the extended universe again.

I originally dabbled with Halo Wars on the 360, since I'm a huge RTS fan. But I never beat it. When I binged the series back in 2021, I played Halo Wars first on PC since it's the first game chronologically. It's a solid RTS game, but not quite up to par with many other RTS games. It definitely plays better on PC as opposed to console, but I've gotta give it credit for actually being a playable RTS on console.
I love the Spartan team featured in this game and I wish they got more screentime outside of this series. Spartan Jerome is a lunatic in the same way Chief is, he's awesome.
Solid but unremarkable RTS overall, but being Halo helps it a ton.

A surprisingly fun game. The controls are very intuitive and don't feel like their holding the game back too much. It is a simple game when compared to its contemporaries like Age of Empires, but it's just as fun and replayable as those games. The worst part is definitely the campaign. The story is rather shallow and there is a random difficulty spike that almost ruins it.
