This isn't the ideal way to play Minecraft

Played for about 20 minutes and the horrible c stick movement told me everything I needed to know about this port and saved myself from what would have been a more agonizing experience

Minecraft on the 3DS doesn’t run very good. Although it makes sense! I do like the concept with the two screens, but I would rather play it on the Nintendo Switch or on my PS5!

Severely overhated version of Minecraft. While this version of Minecraft is significantly outdated content-wise in comparison to the modern Bedrock and Java versions, Minecraft for NN3DS is charming when seen as a look into the past of Minecraft. It's cozy to me in a way no other version of Minecraft is. The circle pad and c-stick combo for controlling the camera and movement is perfectly adequate and only took a few minutes to get used to. I won't fault anyone for not preferring it, I'm in the same boat, but this version of Minecraft is great just like Minecraft was back in the day. The only reason I won't give this version five-stars like I have with Minecraft Bedrock and Minecraft Java is that there are undeniable limitations because of the hardware this version is on, however it is the same old Minecraft I have always loved.

An adequate port to a system not designed for minecraft

i think that this is the most expensive version of Minecraft which is excessively funny to me

i think this port of minecraft gets a lot more hate than it deserves. it is essentially a port of the old legacy pocket edition and bedrock edition smooshed together on steroids and considering the limitations of the 3DS it's actually quite impressive.
the camera controls with the c-stick take a bit of time and effort to get used to but once you are used to them they are very responsive - at the start of my playthrough i was constantly conscious of my fingers on the controls but after a while it faded into the background (the same way you'd learn to use a more typical analogue stick or a mouse)
there is the occasional lag spike when you are breaking blocks (especially sand and gravel), but the average framerate seemed completely fine and i never had any issues dealing with threats in the game due to lag. also, the game freezes for about 15 seconds every 20 minutes toauto-save, but you can also just manually save when you're ready to which resets the timer. (saving the game does not necessitate quitting to menu, like most other versions of minecraft)
i went into this game expecting a small unfinished sandbox like the legacy pocket edition but i came out having played a surprisingly robust port of minecraft. if i were travelling or on the go and wanted to play minecraft i'd definitely choose this over playing pocket edition on my phone!

I don’t know. To be honest, I don’t think Minecraft and the 3DS actually mixed well. Especially with the small c stick

what a shit port, yet something about it is alluring to me..... this must be studied further....

extra half a star cuz the yoda skin comes with the game

i really dislike using the nipple for first person games

It's a pretty cool novelty to play minecraft on the 3DS. It is limited but it is its limited form that makes it feel a bit special to build something cool in it. Not to mention its portability makes it easy to show off those buildings to your friends. Also I appreciate it using touch controls unlike the Wii U port.

at least impressive they got it running on the 3ds

This is the only way to play Minecraft

solid and nostalgic version of the game, just plagued with bugs and long loading times. c-stick camera controls are surprisingly easy to get used to compared to how much people complain about them, but it does result in generally slower reaction times (though this can be a plus in replicating the feel of a first time playthrough for someone otherwise extremely familiar with minecraft). i don’t know if this is just a homebrewed 3DS issue, but autosaves just crash the game lmao, so make sure to manual save when the countdown starts

C-stick for camera movement may be the worst control decision ever made.

it's a simpler and smaller version, but sometimes less is more and i find it more comfy. loads faster than the switch version

originally i was going to call this complete dogshit and awful but then i had a realisation that its passable if ur a child who cant get any other minecraft game or something. but they were seriously charging $40 dollars for this? scam. that's all ill say.

Dropped on New 3DS. Yes, you’re about to read an unironic review on this version. I don’t think I’ll be the only one to say that this is absolutely the worst version of Minecraft. But first, what does the New 3DS Edition bring to the table?
Mario Mashup Pack - Already available on Switch and Wii U, and runs like hot ASS at that. It has a 30fps cap, but manages to run even worse than that; usually 20fps at the best. Sure, it’s a handheld console from 2014, but still.

2016x2016 world size - This is a legitimate knock against the old-school console editions. Consoles had a limit of 1024x1024; at least every console edition minus Gen 8. The New 3DS edition features a unique size of 2016x2016; bigger than the old-gen console editions.

Bottom screen - Similar to Terraria, New 3DS Edition uses the touchscreen for inventory, maps are displayed on the bottom screen, and the menus are… different. Not in a bad way; it just looks oddly interesting to me.

Updates all the way to 2019 - Not much to say here.

That’s it. There were literally no bonuses other than that, based on my experience with the game (and also checking the wiki). Now let’s talk about the negatives; a majority of this review.

The performance is a NIGHTMARE. The game has a 60fps cap in regular gameplay and 30fps in the mashup packs. However, it rarely manages to even GRACE 50fps, let alone 40fps. This isn’t necessarily bad, but this is a “death by a thoushand papercuts” deal.

The controls aren’t that great. The face buttons work fine but the C Stick is not suited for this game. This is a criticism of the New 3DS as a whole, but it’s not good for camera controls. This ultimately kills this game as you can barely aim your shots.

You know the main aspect of the 3DS? The 3D slider? It’s not present here, basically making this port entirely WORTHLESS. Why was this port even made?

Minecraft on 3DS is bad. It’s not a good port and it’s controls are frustrating. Don’t even bother with it as a joke. It’s an annoying experience.

At the time when I only had a 3ds it worked, sure it only updated to 1.9 and only has a small map but it's fun. I personally did not experience lag or any glitches, even after I built a giant statue of Sonic, it ran fine. And beating the game felt a bit easier than Java, and Redstone is a bit different in this version. If you only have a 3ds, play it, but if you have a pc. JUST GET JAVA!

minecraft on the go... if u like old Minecraft

It's wild that this is on 3DS. It just works, it's Minecraft. Perfectly playable. Lovely to have a little MC world in my pocket. I will fall off of it for all the usual reasons I fall off of Minecraft.

Don't subject your kids to this version of the game.

Potentially the worst way to experience Minecraft. The New 3ds systems can barely run a very limited version of what would otherwise be a very pleasant experience. Don't waste your time on this.
