I beat this game when my brother was at school. He couldn't get past stage 4 and I beat this entire game. I was about 5 years old. That confidence boost made me into the man I am today. Without this game I would be nothing.
Then the final boss scared me so hard to compensate that I became a total mess of a person. Maybe I should've skipped this one after all.

"And if you have eggs, always put them in more than one basket. That's a rule of thumb."
"What's a thumb?"
"I don't know."
Video games are an art form. Back in the days of the PS1 generation, there were plenty of incredibly obscure 3D titles, but unfortunately most of them only came out of Japan.
Luckily, Mort The Chicken came out in North America, and it is just that. A charming, yet obscure 3D platforming romp of the likes that I've honestly never experienced before in all of my years of playing video games.
In this 3D platformer from AndNow, their second and final game developed, you play as a TV star chicken named Mort, who is filming one day until his world (inhabited by other chickens) is attacked by an cuboid alien species coming from a well in his barn. Through each level, you must collect all the baby chicks spread throughout and return them to the well, much akin to something like Sonic 3D Blast.
In all honesty, despite some odd design choices, I gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mort The Chicken, as it felt like it didn't completely waste my time. It's no masterpiece, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be going into it. Like, sure it's odd to have floating levels but not the ability for Mort to fall off the edge, but it's all made up for the game's bonkers story and overall direction. It plays along with the idea of Mort being a TV star, not only with the hilarious cutscenes involving news reports and other TV stations, but to the point where one of the boss fights literally has you throwing cubes AT your screen to knock them behind you. I almost don't want to spoil certain levels and designs in this game because of how incredibly obscure they are. And best of all, none of the music is repetitive, so you won't get tired of hearing the same thing over and over. Levels have some nice, weird variety to it too.
Mort The Chicken is definitely an experience that I personally look for in PS1 games nowadays. It's hilarious, bananas, and quite unique for its own time, and I think everyone should at least experience it once.
(Hell, someone should remake it in Unreal Engine or something. The IP is open for the taking now, right?)

PS1 Summer #3
I love the small-scale collectathon concept here, and although the movement is tank controls and the game is very easy, its worth a playthrough if you remember this wacky critter from Pizza Tower. In one of the early cutscenes, you can see a picture of (presumably) a dev and his wife flash on the top monitor on one of the news station clips; its always adorable when devs do that.

It's OKAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
it's ALRIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
It's just a kind of weird to control 3d platformer where you collect baby chicks with a silly chicken with a belmont whip warble-doolap hair curl
The power ups can be kind of fun and there is a surprising amount of cutscenes in this shit!! Like. WAY more than you would anticipate a platformer of this era to have with full animated video shit if u ask me
It's a good thing too because I actually genuinely like the humor and how it Knows its a stupid ass premise but instead of trying to look hard with it it's embracing how silly it is completely to the point where even the ending to the game is anticlimatic and silly
final thoughts:
Now OBJECTIVELY speaking, its really not great but its not a bad game either. I had fun though there's a nice bit of platforming fun to be had. Infact I myself was embracing the bullshit and found out how to do cheats and debug mode shit and I went to town on this game, tweaked the dog-shit camera to be nicer
gave mort a better jump and longer glide
and etc etc
Is this how everyone should play it?
Idk man its mort the fucking chicken
go fuck up Cubicles
save the chickens, do it for the small squishy things
do it
kick their ass
DO IT!!!!! GO AGAINST YOUR DNA CODING AS A CHICKEN!! DO IT!!!! DO IT !!!!! DO IT!!!!
