By 2006, the mainline Pokémon formula was something I was starting to get burned out on. It's not that it's bad, per se, but by Gen 4 I felt like I was going through the motions. It wouldn't be till 2024 that I'd try out anything from Gen 5 to 7 because of this. (Happily though, I can say that doing so was worth it!) On its own merits, Diamond is still fine. I remember getting a few Badges & then just kinda calling it.
My 2nd Pokémon generation.
Quality continuation of the series. Historically, graphics in Pokémon were not the selling point, the fact they could cram this RPG and all these monsters onto a gameboy cartridge was.
But I think this was one generation where they got the closest, graphically, to industry standard. They’ve since fallen off again and current switch games look bad compared to contemporary titles.
The real-time day / night cycle by today’s standards was a minor thing, but I remember thinking that was very cool. Like, I can only catch some Pokémon on weekends during the day? Made them feel rarer.
I also had a shiny Azelf that I lost because I wanted to play the story again. What was I thinking??
