I didn't have platinum cause my dad wasn't buying the same game for me AGAIN, and honestly even though I missed out on girantina and did the steps to get darkrai without knowing he's not even in this damn game, this game is still really good. The step from gen 3 to gen 4 really felt like a NEW GENERATION rather than "hey were just putting stuff out for money."
While the same ol' pokemon formula is still there, we got more amazing music, amazing pokemon designs like drifloon, garchomp and our lord and saviour bidoof, contests were more fun, they took everything from the 3rd gen and made it played around with it to make it better. You gotta respect it.

Platinum carried sinnoh so hard this game is not remotely playable after playing any of the other DS entries

Gets major nostalgia bonus points for the locales and music. I would happily speed through it again for the memories, but I certainly don't have 100 hours for it like I used to.
I have distinct memories of playing in The Underground while visiting family in Idaho. So much fun looting people's bases... lots of yelling.

the balance of the game is horrible; there are so many water and normal types without much of any other type. sinnoh is still a really cool region despite the pokemon type imbalance. also you see the same couple of pokemon everywhere you go, making it less unique as you explore the region.
Just play Platinum.

A good game with some great pokemon, but struggles a little being the first main series pokemon game released on the DS
An incredibly slow and tedious pokemon game... even with the quality of life improvements that being a gen 4 game brings, I still feel this is a worse entry than the original gen 1 games
Pokemon is Pokemon. Diamond is a direct downgrade to Platinum.

i respect people who like these games but i cannot shake the feeling that diamond and pearl are just...Platinum but worse? Platinum but Cyrus is barely there. Platinum but if it was made out of wet tissue paper. It's built on good foundation in a cool as hell region, though, so I find it hard to have too bad of a time with these games.
Maybe BDSP being wet-tissue ports of wet-tissue games just puts a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing.
