Probably the most hyped I ever was for a game as a child, and it was worth the wait.
I don't care if the game was too slow or that there's only 1 fire type, this game was the bees knees and the sole reason for owning a DS in my eyes, all of thge Wi-Fi elements revolutionised the franchise from then on, the physical/special split was a genius design choice, and there's just so much extra detail put into the Sinnoh region that you could tell GF wanted to make this the best Pokemon ever.
I mean every damn town and route has a different song that plays at day and night, what other games even have the time to put that kind of extraneous shit in their game?

Never seen anything about gen 4 before and playing through it was extremely fun, story was cool as hell, I think team galactic is a bunch of nerds and the layout of the region is one of my favorites. I was excited to try out contests because it was one of my favorite parts of gen 3, but I was a bit disappointed at this game's version simply due to the fact I had no accessories and it was a nightmare to win anything lol. Very excited to try Platinum in the future.
I got this game at the age of like 7/8 for being in a local High School's musical that my mom was doing choreography for. It took me years to finish it completely but it was well worth the wait. While I will say I don't have as fond of memories of gen4 as a lot of other people, I will still never forget the Cynthia fight, and if for nothing else but that, this game will stay in my memory forever.
Look this game is great, really, but it's a horrible slog to go through. Apart from the famed slowness, it does suffer from terrible Pokémon distribution and a somewhat lackluster story. It did introduce great things to the franchise, like the Physical/Special split and easier ways to see all the Pokémon in the regional dex! But it's not the definitive gen 4 experience.
THE MUSIC! I think I can confidently say my favorite music in any pokemon game besides Legends Arceus which basically has these tracks in a more advanced state. It's such a toss up between Sinnoh and Unova for best region, but I think I would have to get Sinnoh the edge here. It's just such a joy to explore especially when you get into the ladder half of the game.
Team Galactic is a super fun antagonist and Cynthia is one of the best boss theme's and overall fight of all time. The pokemon in this region is probably the deepest the creators got in their bag with highlights like Luxray, Garchomp, Lucario, Gliscor, and all the Gen 1 third evo's.

I didn't have platinum cause my dad wasn't buying the same game for me AGAIN, and honestly even though I missed out on girantina and did the steps to get darkrai without knowing he's not even in this damn game, this game is still really good. The step from gen 3 to gen 4 really felt like a NEW GENERATION rather than "hey were just putting stuff out for money."
While the same ol' pokemon formula is still there, we got more amazing music, amazing pokemon designs like drifloon, garchomp and our lord and saviour bidoof, contests were more fun, they took everything from the 3rd gen and made it played around with it to make it better. You gotta respect it.
