Saving a lot of data...
Don't turn off the power.

Not quite as good as SoulSilver but Gen IV killed it, and Pokémon has never been as good since

It's crazy how outdated and slow Pokemon Diamond and Pearl has become over the years.
I love the Sinnoh Region, the majority of the new Pokemon introduced as the introduction of Wifi and the physical and special split, but that's about it.

Content and gameplay wise it has aged like milk.
It has the worst designed Pokedex selection in the series (Only two fire types and half of the new Pokemon are locked until post game)
The game engine is slow and delayed.
Story isn't as interesting and fun compared to Platinum.
Terrible level curves.
Poor pacing and game design in various points especially in the mid game.

Don't let nostalgia fully blind you.
In the end just play Pokemon Platinum instead.

first pokemon game i ever played. i remember watching superskarmory's guide on youtube to help me beat this thing back in 2008. playing this thing before and after football practice, being super immersed in the music and the world. wow.

Músicas maravilhosas, pokémon legais, a lore do mundo é bastante interessante.

Olhando assim, não parece tão bom kk
Mas vejo como um pokémon que errou em algumas partes, mas ainda dá pra se divertir.

i think i spent more time grinding for cynthia than i did studying for my finals

The best Pokemon game I've played so far. The issues with it are already known mostly, but the one thing I found particularly annoying was how over leveled the Champion was compared to the preceding areas and even the other Elite Four members. It wasn't too big a deal, but it was enough to make me wait an additional day to beat the game. Luckily Bronzong walls almost her entire team, so if you have something like that up your sleeve it really isn't a glaring issue.

my first mainline pokemon. didn't understand why i dropped this as a kid until i replayed it - the battle speed is painfully slow. i'll play platinum later instead, because sinnoh is definitely a cool region and gen 4 has a good dex

THE best Pokémon game. Fight me.

I lost my Diamond cartridge and all the legendaries on it. I am sad.

this and pokemon emerald were the pokemon games i grew up on so i have a lot of nostalgia for both. i find it kinda hard to explain why i like pokemon so ill just say its a chill fun time but granted i have not played this since i was like 9 years old so i dont actually know how well it holds up

yea i copy pasted my emerald review because i dont really know what to say about it other than i liked it as a kid. if i go back to this or emerald i will probably update these reviews

Primeiro jogo da série Pokémon que eu joguei :)

Made a ton of long-overdue gameplay changes and handed out evolutions to those who needed it, felt like a very "corrective" generation. The campaign is just really tedious, way too many caves/mountains.

ah yes, pokemon 4, the most classic game

I graduated high school, got a Bachelor’s, paid off my student loans, got married four times, got divorced five times, developed a substance addiction, fell into debt, memorized the Sutras, got rehab, got out of debt, did my 401k, got three of my children emancipated, retired and earned my pension before Blissey’s HP hit 0 after one Close Combat.

Anyone that gives it more than 3 stars is blinded by nostalgia. Sure you can like gen 4 for the many great things it introduced to the franchise, the number 1 for me being the special/physical split, but this is also the games where wifi connectivity was introduced, including the GTS. You can also like the new pokemon (most of them are great additions), the new region, the new characters and (the best part of the games) the amazing ost, including eterna forest one of the best songs of the whole franchise.

I like gen 4, a lot... but why the hell would you go back and play diamond/pearl????? Everyone talks about the sloooow gameplay (it's present in every gen 4 game in some way) but it's more than that.

How can a 2d game lag? Why does it take so long to save? Why does the hp bar deplete so slowly? Why does the game need to think and breathe after every action? Yeah the game is slow. Slower than every other gen 4 game. Surfing in this game is painful. So is the snow route. There are some things that platinum just doesn't fix completely and are part of Sinnoh as a region. The marsh, the snow, the honey trees, having to use defog, the amount of hms... Sinnoh is designed to be slow. It works sometimes... the vives are just great in some areas like eterna forest or outside the pokemon league.

The new pokemon are great but have you seen the og Sinnoh pokedex? Why doesn't it include every new mon added in gen 4? Why is magmortar not available in the standard playthrough? Why is ponyta the only fire type you can catch? The lack of fire types is a common complaint but variety is not a thing in this game: there's only 2 ice type lines (mamoswine, glaceon and froslass are not available lmao) and if you want an electric type you'll probably use shinx, because your only other options are either pachirisu or pikachu (sorry no rotom, magnezone or electivire for you until you beat the game).

The progression in this game is so weird. There are some big gaps between some gym leaders then at the end it's mostly rapid fire. It feels rushed and unfinished, and the last gym, the "electric" gym leader only using 2 electric types is great isn't it? After that there's a big jump in the level of the pokemon of the elite 4, but there's only 1 route and the victory road between the last gym and the last 5 fights. Cynthia's pokemon are around level 61-63 (with garchomp at level 66!) but the last gym leader's best pokemon is level 49?

Platinum fixes almost every issue in diamond and pearl. It makes the vanilla games look unfinished in comparison, like it was a beta. It changes the order of the gym leaders, adds several new areas, changes the team composition of enemy trainers and the best of all: fixes most of the technical aspects of dp (surfing is not that painful!) It's still a Sinnoh game though... you'll still need a bidoof and another mon to use every hm and the marsh, snow and foggy routes still exist.

Just play platinum... unless you want a glameow idk

They should make a game like this but with giratina on the box and not mid

A Gem Revisited:

Pokemon Diamond, originally released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS, marked the beginning of the fourth generation of the beloved Pokemon series. As a nostalgic classic, it continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Pokemon fans worldwide. In this in-depth review, we will explore the various aspects of Pokemon Diamond, from its gameplay mechanics to its story and overall impact on the franchise.

Gameplay (9/10):
Pokemon Diamond maintains the core gameplay mechanics that have made the series a hit for over two decades. Players embark on a journey to become a Pokemon Champion, capturing, training, and battling with a wide variety of Pokemon. The fourth generation introduced several noteworthy improvements, such as the Physical/Special split, which added depth to battles by categorizing moves based on their damage type rather than their elemental type.

The addition of the Global Trade System (GTS) allowed players to trade Pokemon with others worldwide, enhancing the sense of community within the game. The Underground feature, which enabled players to mine for items and set up secret bases, was another welcome addition, offering hours of enjoyable distractions.

Graphics and Art Style (7/10):
While Pokemon Diamond was a significant graphical improvement compared to its predecessors, it falls short of the visual standards set by more recent entries in the series. The sprite-based graphics do not showcase the full potential of the Nintendo DS hardware, and character animations are somewhat limited.

However, the Sinnoh region's diverse landscapes and the design of new Pokemon species were a highlight. The art style captures the essence of the Pokemon world, with unique and imaginative creature designs that continue to charm players.

Story and Narrative (8/10):
Pokemon Diamond's narrative follows the standard formula of a young trainer embarking on a journey to collect Gym Badges and thwart the plans of a nefarious organization, Team Galactic. While the story may not be groundbreaking, it does introduce some intriguing concepts related to the creation of the Pokemon universe.

The inclusion of the Legendary Pokemon Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina adds depth to the lore and makes the player feel like a true hero in the Pokemon world. The game's pacing is generally well-executed, although some may find the story a bit predictable due to the franchise's formulaic nature.

Sound and Music (9/10):
Pokemon Diamond boasts an exceptional soundtrack that enhances the overall gaming experience. The memorable tunes, from the catchy battle themes to the calming melodies of towns and routes, contribute to the game's immersive atmosphere. The use of different musical themes for day and night cycles also adds a layer of realism to the game world.

The nostalgic factor of hearing these tunes can't be overstated, and many fans continue to hold a special place in their hearts for tracks like the iconic Route 209 theme.

Replayability (10/10):
One of Pokemon Diamond's strongest aspects is its replayability. With a vast world to explore, numerous Pokemon to catch, and various post-game activities, players can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game. The Battle Tower, competitive battling, and hunting for Legendary Pokemon provide plenty of endgame content.

Additionally, the availability of multiple starter Pokemon and the choice of different team compositions make it tempting to replay the game to experience a fresh adventure.

Conclusion:
Pokemon Diamond may show its age in terms of graphics and animation, but it remains a classic in the Pokemon franchise. Its engaging gameplay, memorable soundtrack, and vast post-game content make it a title that fans continue to revisit. While newer entries have raised the bar in terms of visuals and storytelling, Pokemon Diamond's enduring charm cements its place as a gem in the series that fans old and new can still enjoy.

You will learn to love Ponyta, dammit

Pacing by far one of the most grueling and painful I've ever experienced in a Pokémon game, from the HP bar to biking and surfing, everything felt tedious.

Diamond then goes ahead to further slow the game by adding in the most slowing obstacles of any generation: Supertall grass, Marsh Swamps, Snow Pits, and Fog.

Route 217's design was atrocious, a large patch of white with barely a tree visible in the superdeep snow and blizzard, no indication to wherever you're supposed to be heading in that area.

Platinum fixed a lot of the pacing issues, but Diamond was by far one of the most incredibly painful experiences I've ever had.

People complain about the level curve in Heart Gold & Soul Silver, but Diamond and Pearl aren't off the hook either. My team was around level 50 when I got to the Pokemon league, and Cynthia's ace was at level 67! Like, how are you supposed to level up your Pokemon that much?! I just grinded using the daycare and it was not nice.

I tricked my best friend from elementary into trading me their copy of Diamond for my copy of the shitty tie in speed racer game the day before he moved. Truly my greatest shame. Great game though.

i had a legal copy of this game and an onyx named goku and an onyx named vegeta

Esse jogo é bom porém não me agradou tanto quando o platinum

gen 4 was when i realized how much i love pokemon, so this one will always hold a special place in my heart! :) <3
