The greatest, classic Pokémon experience you can have. The series peaked here.

Pokemon HGSS are beloved titles for a reason: they take the already beloved Gold and Silver and bring them back with the modern take on the pokemon formula. The implementations made by the fourth gen (new evolutions and split between special/physical moves) lead to a more balanced and varied experience, and things like the incredible spritework and the ability to interact with pokemon as never before (with events like poke-walker, ability for mon to follow you, and minigames like the pokeathlon) leads to a more charming way to bond with your fictional animals. The music and sound design is also incredibly good.
The lenght of the game is also absolutely impressive: two whole regions are able to be re-explored in new ways, and this without some incredible secrets like the Sinjoh ruins, legit one of the most amazing pokemon event to this day.

Thought I feel like these remakes doesn't fix a lot of the major flaws of gold and silver: for once, most of the Johto pokedex is still locked for the really last part of the game... like I don't understand why the game that introduced cool monds like Houdoom, Sneasel and Misdreavus will not allow me to use them up until I reach Mount Silver (aka the real end of the game).
Another big problem is the weird difficulty curve: the flow of the adventure can feel really unbalanced: some of the gym leaders can feels brutal compared to the time you fight them, while the others later on can just be too weak compared to what you met before... especially at the later half of the game the experience can feel a bit too unbalanced.
ALso another nitpick I have is.... I don't get why GF didn't went hard on the new evolutions past pokemon got: the addition of evos like Yanmega, Honchkrow, Ambipom, Porygon z, Electivire, Tangrowth and similar designs would have led to a more interesting take on those classics: like imagine meeting Morty and he got a Mismagius, or fighting Pryce equipped with a Mamoswine. Instead the desire to keep the remake closer to the classic leads to some design decisions that can feel underwhelming, especially after many players probably tried DIamnd / Pearl / Platinum at the time.

Still a grea title that I wish would have had some different take on some of its design choices.

Lance me sacaba 10 niveles.

Y me encanta.

A Pokemon game that spoils you with the sheer amount of content

Desse jogo vem meu inicial favorito, te amo Totodile!!!!

level curve detractors are all losers who have never played RPGs that aren't pokemon

replayed it as an adult - I think it's cute game with follower pokemon but kanto is really meh kind of an overrated feature especially with how they went about it. The wild pokemon are so low level its really just more gyms to beat using the same team you already have from the elite 4. The concept of fighting Red is really cool but he is way too overleveled. By the time I could access him all my pokemon were still 30 levels below his. So the only viable strategy is grinding your ass off (which is boring) or pumping your pokemon full of stat boosters and sweeping which is also kinda boring. I think with better balance this would be a much better game.

Simplesmente espetacular, magnifico, show de bolice!

One of the best pokémon games I've played, bringing a new air to the series, being played on the DS and enjoying every moment.

This is my most played video game of all time. Just about every time I revisit it, I discover new things about it. HGSS is probably the most intentional and loving game GameFreak has ever produced. Every single town and route of this game has something to do in it, and its coupled with one of the most relaxing and cultured regions to exist in the series. The game is your playground, and theres few other games that rival this one as a single player experience. It’s a slowburn game you play for months, and that’s why every game comes with a pedometer so you can still play on the go. The only reasons why people nowadays even hate it is because it doesnt conform to their linear playstyle of Pokemon games and thats a damn a shame.

It is neat that it has two regions compared to every other Pokemon game having one, but Kanto doesn't really feel like it offers that much. Comparatively, there are Pokemon Games like Platinum, BW2 and Emerald that are smaller regions with more interesting content to offer.
It's still a really good game, but I would personally prefer if Johto had way more development, even if it meant Kanto was not in the game.

Walking pokemon unfortunately do not make up the glaring issues.

difficult to beat one of the best remakes of all time

You bet I still have the spiky eared Pichu on my save file that's right I'm cool sex with me is great I promise

Pinnacle of the series. Would be a perfect game with a better level curve and pokemon diversity

The best pokemon game ever.
Its remake of Pokemon Silver (gen 2) with D/P/Pt features (gen4).
Story are mostly the same but they added thing after you complete all Johto Gyms, pokemons appears are same from Pokemon Silver until you clear the game once, they buffed some trainers in-game (including the Secret boss), and they added many things like:
- the first pokemon at your party follows you when walking/running around the map
- Custom Safari park
- Battle frontier
- new legendary pokemons from other series
- rematch stronger version of gym leaders/elite 4 with other regions pokemons
- pokethlon minigame that gives you rare items
