Gameplay is the same as the first two Layton games, pretty simple moving around and speaking to people like a point and click adventure game but filled with brain teaser type puzzles. The story in this one is absolutely elevated though, the first two games had really fun mysteries but this game ramps that up to 11. It also throws in a shockingly emotional personal element as well, I felt like for the first time in the series we got to really know Layton as a character as well as his past. The whole cast has great moments as well it was nice to see them all again. The cutscenes are beautiful in this HD port so I’m very glad I went with this version for that alone, I really hope the other games get this sort of treatment eventually.

what the fuck are you talking about, none of this makes any sense

i dont know if im just tiring of the format or whatever but it feels like 80% of the puzzles in this are "heres 600 combinations to look through manually, pick the correct one" at which point its less of a puzzle game and more of a fuck me in the ass game

OH NOW THIS FUCKS. MADE ME CRY MANY TIMES. LOVE THIS FUCKING GAME.

finally, the first game to break my 5 game streak of giving 9/10s... an 8/10!

I think my main issues with this game are the puzzles sometimes have the most infuriating answers that can take me like 30 minutes to solve, compared to the story where i figured out every single twist the second the plotline to be twisted was introduced. this is not to say that the story is bad, i think that it has a lot of just utterly fantastic moments, even if i knew they were coming.
were these games always this short? i dont remember curious village taking me only 13 hours to complete, and diabolical box i played over the course of like 4 months cause i started it immediately after cv and got burnt out.

Flora was done so dirty in this game. It was kind of noticeable in Diabolical Box but here it's clear as day, especially when Layton is talking to her. He feels very out of character in those moments it's weird BUT other than that this game is peak. A true gentleman cries over the ending

DON JODIENDA Y EL FUTURO JODIDO

This game was already perfect before the remaster.

I remember absolutely bawling at the end as a kid.

I enjoyed this game, but I still don't really understand why people always say the first trilogy are better than the prequels, especially the 3DS. At least with this game it felt like it had more diversity in the music compared to the other two games in the original trilogy, and puzzles started becoming a lot more interactive too. The plot was just okay and felt like it went too far at some points, even for Professor Layton, a series that has never really had grounded plot lines.
