Distinctly remember seeing this in the January 2012 issue of Nintendo Power, in that section they had near the end of the run where they went over some random retro game. Fond childhood memories of flipping through the last few issues of that mag before it shut down, very formative in getting me to care about older games alongside shit like AVGN. Iunno, Revenge of the 'Gator is a name that really sticks in yer mind, along with the weird, flatly colored cover art. It's prolly my favorite part of the game as a whole lol
Turned out to just be a demo for what would eventually become Kirby's Pinball Land, but since I have less affection for Kirbs than most I definitely prefer the cute nondescript alligators of this game. They're charming, tho they don't do much to elevate a pretty rudimentary pinball game. As a strong advocate for all video pinball games having a tilt mechanic, the lack of one here basically sealed it's fate as a curio at most. No reason to play this over the far superior Alien Crush, unless you're just really into gators.

Really nice pinball physics, especially for a game boy title. The opening sequence featuring dancing gators was also a pleasant surprise for me. Definitely has the charm of a HAL title.
I think the multi screen set up for the entire board is ambitious, but does not quite work for me. Progress resetting when you leave a screen is a bummer when ordinarily in pinball your actions should stick for the rest of the round.

Title screen dance got me on board immediately, and the rest of the game is equally charming. Took me a while to get my head around the screen transitions, but it's a solid chunk of lovely fun, a great thing to zone out with.
There's something I really enjoy about when video pinball goes where reality can't. Magic.

just touched the freaking sublime by sitting down to play with Kontinuum by Klaus Schulze playing in the background [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UkXeOMSwdZQ] what just happened? is this what meditation is supposed to do to my brain?
didn’t have a goal, score didn’t matter, just got to come back to a system i enjoy and get lost in what felt familiar. that’s video games to me, pure & simple.
i love every gator here & the playful theming throughout. walls are lined with gator teeth, portals hold your hand into unseen corners of the world, my pinball got stuck on a spot for 30 seconds as it edged back out pixel by aching pixel. i’m not even mad, it was kinda beautiful.
it’s emergent, it’s contained, it’s goofy gators. what more could you want?
