It just ain't hitting with me

This game is a difficult piece of shit.

Sadistic to a fault. The series list is balanced excellently, it sounds and looks great, the animations are top notch, the interactions between the series characters are humorous and well-written... but the game itself will pummel you mercilessly if you haven't optimized your sortie group and support attack tactics. The enemies have comically inflated health and dodge rates, and the last ten or so stages slowly grow ridiculous.
Still an easy recommendation if you like the series list, however. Lots of strong work in the presentation department.

I HATE THIS GAME, I LOVE THIS GAME, I HATE THIS GAME, I LOVE THIS GAME, I AM IN A HORRIBLE RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS GAME

The Super Robot Wars games are NEVER as good as you actually want them to be, but this one really takes the cake with how much of a slog it is. Overwhelmingly difficult, repetitive, and all around painfully designed. Genuinely feels unbalanced and mean, and not in a way I can even picture people who like that sort of thing enjoying. Which is a shame, because the roster, characters, and animations are great! I just wish every level wasn't "defeat 100 damage sponges that each take several turns to defeat. okay now do it again." And sometimes with a regenerating super boss thrown in after multiple waves of that.

I liked Super Robot Wars (mostly the OG games) but unless you are an insane mecha fan the gameplay alone isn't enough for me to play more than a few games since the gameplay is almost always the same ever since the SNES/PSX and it relies a lot on you knowing the references. The enemy phases are way too big.

I don't want to say it's bad, I played it back when I was in an SRPG craze but I have severe burnout by now, I'll pick it up again if I somehow watch like 60 different Mecha anime series to get all the enjoyment I can from the games.

Good use of characters and different franchises to tell the story, starts out with some characters not as likely to have as much of a use in some of the later games that are useful here and get more interaction. Nice to not have annoying side objectives on stages while just being more difficult by default. At times ridiculously low hit chances but the games makes things a bit easier by not charging you to repair destroyed units and getting a game over allows you to keep the money for upgrades. A few series included are missing some important characters.
