Warpips is a simple tug-of-war strategy game that gave me exactly what I wanted. It strikes a good balance between chill gameplay and strategic planning as you slowly collect troops to deploy in battle by progressing through the main battle map. The opening introduction paragraph humorously frames the game as an imperialist conquest and pokes fun at Western/European expansionism, which gave me a good laugh. It's a very easy game to pick up, and it's fun learning about what troop combination works best together, but once you finish the short campaign, there's pretty much nothing more to it. Just the same thing again but on a harder difficulty.
That was a suprise. I got the game for free on epic and spontaniously decided to give it at try. About 5 hours later, I successfully finished my first (and only) run. I had a blast with it until I reached the final level. I played on medium difficulty and in all the previous levels, my base never got damaged, but in the final level, I lost 3 battles in a row, until I finally, over about half an f***ing hour, won. I would have been so pissed if my progress was lost because the final level is a difficulty spike the size of mount everest. Everything before the final level was great though. I wish there were dlc or multiplayer for the game.
Warpips is a tug of war strategy game which basically means players fight by sending units through a horizontal lane towards the enemy. Most of the fighting itself is done by the units automatically so this genre is more on the casual side of strategy.
On that note, I think Warpips is one of the best ones I've played so far, I like the military theme, the presentation is charming and there are plenty of different units to play with including infantry, structures, vehicles, artillery, etc. There's a lot of meat on it for a casual game.
