70% of the game was locked behind a monthly subscription, which really sucked because there was some really good content and lore behind those pay walls.
I remember being obsessed with this game until getting to a gate that I had to pay for (even though I had already bought the subscription??) before having an epiphany that I did not want my mother to spend another cent on this stupid game.

May it be pure nostalgia, but I played the game for real after I would only play the free content as a kid. The game although charming has major flaws that are unavoidable. Compared to many MMOs there are many quests in Wizard101 but in some worlds its absurd. The quests themselves kill the game in later stages because the quests only vary to (defeat, talk, collect, defeat&collect). Even though you can create decks for new strategies, usually there is just one deck that can sweep everything. Game is fun to play a little but I get burnt out in less than a week whenever I try to come back to it.
as sincerely as I can put this I love this game but boy is it a pain in the ass to play. i've been playing since it came out and i think i like it for everything besides like... the actual way quests are? i like the worlds, game looks dated but it's still pretty cool, absolutely love the housing customization character customization etc. i just think battles in this game take way way way longer than they should and quests do not help especially if you're playing solo!!! just feels like it takes too long to even get to the story because half the time you're killing like 8 guys for a single drop or whatever. also i like how varied the classes are im a myth wizard! wahoo! yippee!
Surprisingly entertaining at the begining, until you reach the paywall after playing for 2 hs. It's a meh game from 2008 with PS1 graphics, why would you even have a 10 usd/month paywall at this point?? Could argue the same for World of Warcraft.
Is not the fact that there's a paywall, its that the paywall is a literal wall in the middle of the tutorial.
You don't complete any final quest, or end a chapter, or finish a questline, some random NPC just asks you to do some random low level crap like "kill rats", and there is a wall which you cannot get through because you need to get a premium account. OUT OF NOWHERE.

I would rate this game 5 stars but the fact that this game is sorta a pay-to-win throws me off. You have to hand Kingsisle a measly $10 a month to simply play the game.
But if we were to discard the fact of that, the community in this game is so friendly. Almost everyone i met were nothing but kind to me and others, and people constantly want to help you questing. I've made at least 4 friends in Wiz in the past month already.
You are never too old to play this game. Although this used to cater towards children, its an addicting game to play for all ages. Sure, there is a huge grinding system, but in the end, its all worth it.

Classic MMO I've been playing for over a decade, was free to play for a long time then got gifted some crowns and membership. Crowns player, will come back every few months/years just to see what's up and progress a bit through whatever abandoned storyline I was on. No idea how long I've played, would estimate a few hundred hours. Way too many additions to the game now, but maybe I'll come back to finish up the second arc with Morganthe and call it quits there.
My first MMO experience, besides maybe the McDonald's one, if you would even consider that website flash game one. Tried to play with my childhood best friend back in elementary, favorite memory was when we actually were able to friend each other (Skype the GOAT). I accidentally told him my password (immature) and he surprisingly abided by the rules and told me that was a bad idea. Rest in Peace, Christian. I miss you and many others do too.
