Game suffered from severe power creep by the halfway point. Enemies could not keep up with my units as they promoted and continued to level up. Ran into a number of instances where just one of my units could annihilate entire squads of enemies with no challenge whatsoever. The story was also pretty weak, even for Fire Emblem standards. The main antagonist has a really pathetic and half-baked motivation for even doing the things he does.
I'm surprised a lot of people rated it so low. I had an absolute blast collecting all the superweapons from the eight legends en getting the real ending. It's refreshing to use the best weapons before the absolute end of the game. The difficulty is higher than the other gba titles, but nothing i couldn't handle. Some of the maps are unnecessary big/slow, but with all the ups and downs i don't think this game is much worse than the FE masterpieces on the gba.
So good yet so glaringly flawed, and it's a shame that most casuals mostly pick up on the flaws and decide it's a bad game, because it's one of the most solid FE games with it's excellent difficulty and map design. The game is basically just a huge escort mission to get Roy to the throne, and yes, unit balance is terrible, and yes, hitrates are awful, it's a pretty janky game at times but it's otherwise so goddamn solid and genuinely challenging. As a strategy game, this is one of the better FE games.
A pretty great Strategy RPG that successfully rebooted the series for a new audience. Its wonderful visual style, well-developed world and interesting conflict make it a stand-out entry for the series. However, there are plenty of mechanics and levels that are a bit clunky to play through. The cast could also be developed a bit further, especially the main lead.

Hiding the proper ending behind keeping certain units alive and weapons un broken seems completely at odds with other mechanics in the game, i.e perma death / durability. I feel like this really lets the game down as it forces players into a mind set of resetting over every little mistake and this can make playing the game really draining and boring. To compound these issues the game features reinforcements which move as soon as they spawn which given the inflated stats on hard mode can cause first time players to suffer a cheap loss which they couldn't avoid. I think these issues really harm the fun in FE and make it harder to get people into the series.
Having to have roy seize each chapter is also a slog and will just end with you carrying him around with your fliers. Rescue dropping can be entertaining every now and again but the whole game being like that can get dull.
If you're a fan of the series maybe do a play through on normal, if you're really into min/maxing stuff then you may get something out of hard mode too.
