not really my type of game, so i'm going to avoid giving a star review, but oh my GOD.... i wish what game studios took away from Breath of the Wild wasn't "all gamers want is to pick stuff up off the ground for hours, gliding, and vaguely-Ghibli artstyles" and they instead took all of the things that actually made Breath of the Wild good
This game is for one that want to play only one game for much time, because you will need to go into and farm items all days, take part of events and wait for expansions to continue with history. You need some sort to got characters that you want to play with because you can't conquer them while playing, just hopping gacha resource give the character to you.
This game bled itself dry already. Content additions are extremely random and doesn't appeal to the core game. Mainly feels like it's trying to be an amalgamation of all games. Puzzle, Tower Defense, Arcade, Platforming. It's just a mess. I wouldn't be surpised if some sort of battle royale mini game is added.
Updating and improving core gameplay should have been the focus. It's real boring to play now.
Next, the player base just sucks man. Bro, half the roster is underaged. A wise man once said, the legal age of consent is 18 years old.

Extremely predatory monetisation and mediocre story, at least early on, but you get a lot of solid gameplay for free. Despite how good the free experience is, at least in my opinion, the nature of the game means I can only recommend it to those who know they'll be able to resist spending money on it.
I was going to play this on my phone, but it cooked my phone so bad I could literally smell the burning rubber of my case. It also drained my battery almost a percent a minute. I downloaded the PS4 version and it was a slideshow. This seems like a solid game that I'll probably revisit when I get a new phone/if there's a Switch port.
If a gacha game ends up being my GOTY I'm doomed.
Taking notes from Breath of the Wild feels like the most obvious thing in the world, but they add a simple but engaging combat system that makes it feel like it's own thing. Sending out a butt load of elemental skills and having them react in various way to just melt the enemy is incredibly satisfying.
The characters you meet along the way all have nice little adventures that flesh them out. The side quest are short but can be evocative. All the tertiary dialogue found in books and from NPC's bring a lot of life to the world. However, when it comes to the main story it ends up being a little weaker. The big moments are rushed through and lack any sort of build up. They just kind of come and go with less impact than they deserve.
This should be the exact kind of game to activate my loot box brain worms, but luckily it's fun enough to just play without feeling the need to drop mad amounts of cash. Which is very fortunate because the pull rate for 5 star characters is disgusting. I have played for approximately 200-300 hours and have pulled 2.
The incentive to buy is very dangerous.
This is definitely the most value I've personally gotten out of a free game.

Good, bordering on great for the first 20 hours or so. Then the gacha sets in.
Edit 2021: Yo, I haven't payed a cent for this game and have had way more fun with it than games I've paid full price for. Plus have two five star characters. The gacha systems are predatory and aren't cheap, but I haven't felt the need to spend any money.
The art is gorgeous, sweeping, colorful vistas with a stunning amount of verticality. You really want to climb to the top of every mountain and see what little puzzle or combat encounter may lie there.
was 3/5 now 4/5.
