I was a little worried about this, as a fan of the first game. What a departure in terms of form factor. Admittedly I've only unlocked a couple characters and played a handful of hours with a friend, but I really like it, and I think it's a fitting sequel to the first, despite the complete overhaul of how it's played.
It can be a good, chill multiplayer game that you don't have to think too hard about. Throw a stream on in the bg and you got some good vibes going for sure. Or, you can make it stupidly hard and crank up the difficulty with some setting changes. It's up to what you want, and I appreciate that.
There's a bit of lore that I myself haven't looked into much but some might enjoy. Overall, it's a solid game. I think its a 3.5/5 or a 4/5 alone but the very fun times I've had with friends make me rate it up for that.

I initially thought it would be impossible to make a 3d version of risk of rain but here we are! Runs take a little longer than I'd like (spelunky honestly is the perfect length for me). That being said, with the inclusion of online multiplayer this time around, this is the best way to experience risk of rain.
This game is an enigma. the moment i hit 170 hours on ror2, it feels like this beautiful, expertly crafted game turned into a steaming pile of miserable balance and one shot KOs. That being said, im pretty sure this game singlehandedly lowered my gpa first semester of college.

my favorite game to just, play, by far, and my most played game (except probably toontown online). i often just start doing a long run of this game just because the gameplay is so satisfying and great. i've collected every achievement at this point. i mute all the sounds and just listen to music and unwind, letting my brain sort of go and just having fun. it is incredibly fun with friends too. i can always find myself getting back into it. this game is so playable and great, it is beautiful with wonderful music and is incredibly satisfying. i really am so happy with all of the entertainment and satisfaction I have gotten from this game.
I just really can't get into it. I think it generates really boring and mostly flat levels and most of the loot feels dull as well. Opening a container just never feels exciting for me. These were already problems that made the first game feel boring after a while, so this isn't at all the sequel that I wanted.
Everything feels great about the game even if it's far from being finished. While it is past a 1.0 update there's still a ton of other things the devs have planned for the game in the near future. Admittedly there are some characters that genuinely feel sluggish to play, but the ones that don't feel that way feel so good. The gameplay peaks once you unlock loader and her unlockable gauntlet and hook abilities. It's a nice game to try and unlock everything, because unlocking more items is almost always exclusively more fun than not, but you can also use the game to just kind of chill and autopilot while you listen to something in the background like a podcast, livestream, or whatever it may be.
